SCOPE OF WORK SUMMARY AND PURPOSE

Q2 Impact is seeking a highly motivated professional as Managing Director of Programs with experience in translating efficient operations to support corporate strategy. This is a new position that will oversee our growing portfolio of projects and play a leadership role in shaping the next decade in growing the portfolio building on Q2 Impact’s 25+ year track record. The incumbent will be a member of Q2 Impact’s leadership team and will be responsible for ensuring project technical and financial performance, managing risk, and supporting Q2 Impact’s growth. The Managing Director of Programs should be able to oversee portfolio of over $100 million and can think strategically as well as tactically to ensure that projects are operating efficiently and effectively and ensure 100% client satisfaction. The Managing Director will work with the leadership team and senior directors and practice area leads to develop and attain Q2 Impact’s overall strategy and will maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration. To do this, he/she will oversee Q2 Impact’s practice areas, which include Institutional Support, Governance and Inclusive Development, and MEL and CLA; as well as the contracts team, human resources, and IT team. The position will also contribute to growth by leading and contributing to business development by ensuring that all staff are equipped with skills to increase work through our existing projects, building relationships with clients and stakeholder, and conducting in-field reconnaissance.

The ideal candidate should be driven by excellence and will have a proven track record, have the ability to multitask effectively and bring leadership experience and excellent communication skills. He/she should have demonstrated success working with different clients and stakeholders including but not limited to USAID, Department of State, and DOD. He/she should also have a strong background in project management and oversight, experience with various contracting mechanisms as well as cooperative agreements and subawards, project start-up, client management expertise, and technical experience aligned with Q2 Impact’s current practice areas and/or growth strategy.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Project Oversight: Work with practice leads, project management teams, and field teams to deliver high quality programming, meet and exceed annual budgets, and proactively identify and address areas of risk.
  • Develop new and innovative strategies that can grow Q2 program portfolio and be a differentiator in the market; contribute to the development and execution of the organization’s larger strategic plans.
  • Contribute to Q2 strategic and financial goals by strengthening organizational capabilities and fostering a positive workplace culture.
  • Lead and maintain improvements to Q2 business management processes, workflows, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with other Q2 departments, and align these with training curriculum for staff.
  • Support and encourage cohesion between project execution and organizational strategy, ensuring that program management is aligned with strategic goals and delivering tangible business value.
  • Support functions: Oversee the work of Q2 Impact’s contracts, human resources, and IT departments to ensure high quality service provision aligned with internal needs.
  • Strategic Planning: Work across projects and portfolios to identify and address cross-cutting challenges and opportunities. For example, identifying existing and projected technical needs and initiating recruitment for candidates; improving the budget forecasting process and oversight in coordination with finance; developing and deploying risk mitigation strategies.
  • Business development: contribute directly to business development by leading and writing proposals. Engage with business development team to develop effective business development trainings; work through existing projects to identify areas for growth.
  • Technical Leadership: Represent Q2 Impact in a technical capacity as needed, including at industry events, while engaging with clients, or through thought leadership. Support staff to expand their technical capacity. Identify technical gaps and opportunities for growth.
  • Capacity Building: Provide a mix of coaching, mentoring, and training to staff. Directly support senior-level staff to build leadership and technical skills. Develop company-wide capacity building/training programs for project management skills.
  • Foster a culture of knowledge management, ensuring lessons learned are documented and shared widely.
  • Security: Developing and implementing security strategies and policies to protect the company’s assets, employees and facilities. Serve as a main POC for security incidents. Ensure collaboration between project teams and= internal departments, such as human resources and IT, to ensure compliance with security protocols and standards.
  • Organizational Development: Analyze current operational processes and performance, recommending solutions for improvement where necessary.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced degree in International Development, business, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Experience working across multiple clients and different donor agencies is highly desirable.
  • Skills: Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Project Operations: proven experience in managing operations for a portfolio of complex projects and in managing corporate KPIs.
  • Knowledge: Keen understanding of best practices in organizational development, process improvement, and capacity building for US government contractors and/or NGOs.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English is required.
