Job purpose

The School seeks a certified athletic trainer with a clear love of athletics, and an understanding of and appreciation for working with adolescents. We seek candidates with a bachelor’s degree or higher in sports medicine or a directly related field to collaborate proactively and effectively with both students, parents, and colleagues in their work.


Candidates should have a current Athletic Trainer Certification (ATC) and have or obtain a Basic Life Support Certification (BLS). The Athletic Trainer provides services within the scope, requirements, and parameters of the New Mexico Athletic Trainers Licensing Law, as laid out by the New Mexico Board of Athletic Trainer Examiners following the Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics as set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association.


Duties and responsibilities

TRAINER

● Lead the continued development of the athletic training, prevention, and rehabilitation program for upper school and middle school athletics programs

● Provide coverage at athletic events and practices from the beginning of the fall sport season to the conclusion of the spring season; attend post-season and any additional home-hosted contests as requested by the Athletic Director

● Oversee player needs, first aid, and emergency medical equipment and aid on campus during afternoon and evening athletic events and practices

● Provide a visible presence at at both indoor and outdoor athletic events and practices and fully equip coaches and student athletes with appropriate supplies and protective equipment and fitting(s)

● Respond to the injured/ill athletes as the first responder

● Manage injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation when necessary, and help develop and provide preventative athletic medical care, as needed

● Work closely with Athletic Director (AD), Assistant Athletic Director (AAD), coaches, athletes, and parents and guardians concerning care and return-to-play decisions for student-athletes

● Balance time effectively around home and away games, as needed, including visiting team player injuries

● Equalize and adjust time as needed between athletic events

● Present/provide Athletic Training procedures, schedules, and related communications

● Maintain any related data, dataset(s), or database(s), including the use of Blackbaud around student athlete participation, physical records, health records, student illness and injuries, emergency cards, and contact information ● Maintain an injury and illness prevention plan and emergency action plan(s) for seasonal sports

● Assist the Nurse’s Office, as needed, in regard to student athlete daily/weekly/monthly injury management and any related protocol(s)

● Lead Athletic Training communications, budgeting, inventory management, and purchasing

● Take a mission-aligned approach to supporting student growth and new initiatives

● Supervise the clearance of injured athletes prior to and during the sport seasons

● Communicate with the Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and Dean of Students about injuries or conditions that might affect the academic performance or abilities of the student

● Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport-specific conditioning programs and methods

● Maintain an effective, clean, and efficient athletic training room

● Maintain a daily treatment log and complete all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents ● Maintain and update all related licenses and certifications, including mandatory CPR/AED

QUALIFICATIONS

● Bachelor’s Degree Required

● ATC Credential

● Ability to complete continuing education requirements as set forth by the NATA Board of Certification (BOC)

● State licensure

● Experience working with grades 6-12 student athletes

● Commitment to working with culturally diverse students, families, and colleagues and contributing to building and maintaining an inclusive community and a passion and skill to contribute positively to an educational environment that supports a lifelong love of learning

● Well organized with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

● Discretion and respect for confidentiality
