ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW:

Face to Face Health and Counseling is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing economic and health equity for youth ages 11–24. We do this work through a comprehensive approach that includes housing, mental health, medical, youth justice, education & employment, and community services. We take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to our work and center the needs of young people impacted by racism and other forms of oppression and marginalization. Founded in 1972, Face to Face serves more than 3,000 youth annually.

JOB SUMMARY:

This role is responsible for establishing trusting youth-adult relationships with youth who have been harmed by crime, community violence, and/or deficient social structures. This role will primarily be located in the community in order to provide outreach and education about available resources to youth who have been harmed. Youth may be referred to Face to Face for additional support to achieve their goals around justice, housing, education, employment, financial stability, building support networks, and more.

This position is 37.5 hours a week and requires occasional availability on evenings and weekends.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supportive Services

  • Advocating on behalf of victims/survivors to help meet their self-defined needs in areas including, but not limited to: housing, health, social services, safety and security issues; creditors; property repair; and in obtaining assistance from other resources/services
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Provide information and referral to resources as appropriate
  • Assistance securing emergency services such as shelter, food, childcare, clothing, transportation, and other necessities
  • Provide information and assistance in obtaining civil protection orders
  • Act as a liaison and provide support as appropriate to victims/survivors involved in criminal justice or other system processes
  • Provide information to crime victims/survivors on their rights and assist them with asserting their rights through advocacy and referral
  • Develop and maintain relationships agency-wide and community-wide with youth serving programs and agencies
  • Collaborate with other staff and maintain teamwork style, and maintain professional working relationships with clients or other outside agencies or contacts
  • Make referrals to Face to Face services and community resources.
  • Model behavior that is consistent with, and supportive of healthy adolescent development by adopting a harm reduction approach that empowers youth to make healthy choices.
  • Provides all services guided by the evidence-based principles for helping youth overcome homelessness.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of B.A. degree in social services, extensive experience in lieu of degree
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working with youth experiencing homelessness or facing other barriers
  • Experience with a positive youth development and harm reduction approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • High reliability and integrity
  • High degree of problem-solving skill
  • Positive attitude and willingness to do what it takes to meet youth needs
  • Ability to work independently, exercising good judgment and involving others when necessary
  • Good crisis management skills and the ability to navigate stressful situations well
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively with people of diverse ethnic, economic, racial and cultural backgrounds.

LOCATION:

Community-Based – This role involves extensive time in the community including outreach sites, partner organizations, community events, and/or client homes. Work location will vary week to week. Employees may be required to be fully onsite during the initial 3-month training period.

PAY & BENEFITS:

The pay rate for this position is between $25-$26.50 an hour, based on qualifications. Face to Face offers benefits which include health, dental, short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, 403b account as well as 23 days of PTO and 11 paid holidays.
