Job Description:
Entrepreneurial subject matter expert recognized for delivering technically robust solutions to an established client base. Able to supervise and perform associated scientific analyses, research, calculations, and produce high quality reports to address regulatory, standards, and investigative related consulting projects. Provides support for in addition to leading projects. Plans, directs, coordinates, and manages projects for clients regarding failures and process improvements in mechanical equipment and systems, including but not limited to government regulations, rulemaking, legislative procedures, standards, environmental impact, transportation safety, product safety, infrastructure, and related subjects. Provides analysis and support to ensure that goals/objectives of projects are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters by performing the following duties personally or with the assistance of Staff Consultants or Staff Engineers.
This job is expected to develop supervisory responsibilities over time, through management of office personnel. This employee is expected to solicit the support of other team members to achieve goals and objectives. This employee is expected to report to either the Sr. Director or Vice President of Mechanics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews project details to determine time frame, procedures, and deliverables for accomplishing project, including staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources throughout various phases of the project.
- Testify in court on behalf of clients.
- Makes determination to take or decline projects based on all variables.
- Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel.
- Confers with project staff to outline work plan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority.
- Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget.
- Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
- Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
- Conducts well-developed and well-prepared client presentations.
- Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies.
- Works with Business Development staff to identify potential clients and strategies to build client base.
- Develops client relationships.
- Mentors non-senior employees in growth and development.
Qualifications
Experience Requirements:
- Must have senior level experience as a consultant with a proven record to develop clients.
- An existing portable book of business and desire to further grow and expand these service offerings within a multidisciplinary organization.
- Nationally recognized subject matter expert in a field of mechanical engineering.
Education Requirements:
- Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or allied discipline with at least six years of relevant consulting experience, or
- M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or allied discipline, or equivalent with eight years of relevant professional experience, or
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or allied discipline and twelve years of diverse consulting and industry experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
- Registered mechanical professional engineer (P.E.) preferred. At a minimum, possess the ability to become registered.
Skills/Abilities Preferred:
- Ability to interact with clients in a professional manner and develop business both internally and externally.
- Willingness and ability to testify in a court of law or arbitration. Prior testifying experience a plus.
- Advanced analytical skills within core expertise, e.g., fluid mechanics, solid mechanics, heat transfer, machine design, or manufacturing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Team oriented work process skills.
- Ability and interest to grow their forensic engineering practice.
- Ability to assemble and lead a team of professionals.
- Revenue generation capacity in a consulting environment.
Compensation: Compensation will be made up of a competitive base salary as well as bonus potential determined by your own individual performance and the performance of the organization overall.
