PurposeAssist Loan Collections team in Student Accounts Receivable to ensure University compliance with the applicable policies, laws, and regulations concerning the collection, adjustments, correction, and correspondence regarding Federal Perkins Loans and Institutional Loans.
Responsibilities- Provide customer service to borrowers by answering phone calls, responding to Loans emails, assisting borrowers at the front counter. Document borrower correspondence in university mainframe system (*DEFINE).
- Verify and process deferment, forbearance, and loan cancellation forms. Adhere to strict deadlines.
- Prepare written correspondence such as past-due loan emails, manual deferment/cancellation letters, and default resolution letters for Perkins borrowers. Pick up, sort, process, and distribute mail.
- Verify the collection agency placement reports sent to us by each agency to ensure that balances match the loan balances in DEFINE.
- Assist with Institutional Loan borrower questions and special projects.
- Create daily loan consolidation payment vouchers in university mainframe system (*DEFINE).
- Transmit credit reporting data to national credit bureaus monthly. Upload Perkins Loan data to the National Student Loan Data System monthly.
- Process returned loan payments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree and three years administrative assistant experience or high school graduation or GED with five years of clerical experience, including one year of experience at the Administrative Assistant level. Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, organizational skills, analytical skills, and attention to detail. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in a fast-paced office, working independently with minimal supervision. Experience dealing with difficult or demanding customers. Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows operating system. A history of consistent and punctual attendance at the workplace. Home Internet access.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsBilingual in English/Spanish. Bachelor's Degree in business-related field. Experience working with Federal student loans. More than the required years of experience with clerical functions and customer service. Experience working in an office setting. Strong computer skills. Experience with DEFINE, FAMENU, FBMENU, and/or NRRECS. Experience working with confidential information. Experience dealing with difficult or demanding customers while enforcing University and Federal laws concerning federal student loans.
Salary Range$42,000
