Your Opportunity
Stantec is currently seeking a Transit Systems Lead for the US. Ideal candidates are “Seller/doer” responsible for leading pursuit and delivery of excellent work to our clients. As the US Transit Systems Lead, you will work with a diverse team across the US to support top line growth while also supporting our teams to deliver on complex multi-disciplinary rail and transit projects with exceptional quality and innovative design solutions that exceed client expectations. You will work closely with regional team leads as well as with the transit & rail sector lead. The US Transit Systems Lead will plan, organize, monitor, and oversee one or more projects, which may include design oversight for signals, communications, traction power, and safety and security assurance including QA/QC reviews, operational reviews, transit planning and design (including the Systems Engineering lifecycle), and construction administration. Types of projects may include bus, light rail, heavy commuter rail or subway infrastructure, new or expanded stations, operations and maintenance facilities, and other associated transit infrastructure. The US Transit Systems Lead will also act as a Team Leader, providing overall guidance and mentorship to staff, and assisting with business development activities.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Client Focus:
- Responsible for exceeding client expectations through strong account management for key clients in the sector and personally leading accounts for major clients.
- Achieve minimum client and proposal-specific marketing and business development (M&BD) sales goals, including internal cross-selling initiatives, target 25% of time.
- Lead and participate in pursuits and campaigns for major opportunities.
- Drive the client relationship strategy, working with regional leaders to drive strong results in the client satisfaction survey within the respective BC.
- Business Development and Collaboration:
- Actively contribute to win strategies and successful project execution and become involved at a hands-on level in key pursuits as needed and on projects should issues impacting client satisfaction or project management best practices escalate.
- Lead growth of the Systems team through developing and leading the business development, key pursuit and sales strategy.
- Responsible for developing and managing the marketing and business development (M&BD) plan including cross selling.
- Increase visibility of Stantec by sharing our knowledge and innovation story through key client engagements to enhance our reputation and drive revenue.
- Establish an effective Go/No Go Review process and track compliance of Go/No Go Process.
- Partner with other leaders to drive collaboration on pursuits across geographies and business lines.
- Responsible for utilizing and ensuring the opportunity Pipeline is maintained and monitor to optimize business development plans and employee utilization rates.
- Ensure local marketplace reputation through established relationships and support of regional leads.
- Project Focus:
- Achieve minimum direct utilization target of 60%.
- Actively participate including contribution to written content in major projects in key roles such as Independent Technical Reviewers, as required.
- Oversee risk management related to projects and pursuits including review of contracts, fees, and proposals on large pursuits.
- Lead multi-disciplinary teams of Project Managers, Engineers, Planners, Designers, Inspectors, and other staff as required.
- Lead the teams through the successful completion of medium to large complex projects while managing multiple projects at a time.
- Prepare project work plans and schedules and obtain management/client approval.
- Maintain regular communication with clients regarding project status and project quality, and proactively resolve issues.
- Manage relationships with project stakeholders, including internal and external clients and vendors, regulatory authorities and technical agencies, and the public.
- Proactively track, analyze and report on actual performance against the plan, and prepare cost and schedule reporting, both for clients and as part of internal reporting processes.
- Analyze project management and project delivery risks, establish contingency plans and identify trigger events and responsibility for initiating mitigating action.
- Lead and manage business development initiatives including Requests for Qualifications and Requests for Proposals; with input from others, compile a comprehensive and realistic scope of work, and prepare a complete and accurate fee estimate.
- Provide mentoring, assistance, encouragement and motivation to team members, including assisting the Transportation Managing Leader with the establishment of development and performance goals.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with all commonly used project delivery models.
- Strong business development and client management skills, including sound understanding of contract law, scheduling techniques, and budget development.
- Experience in project planning, risk management, cost management and schedule management, and methods of analyzing and reporting project performance on financial and other KPIs.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including experience making presentations to senior management, elected officials and the public.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills: the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.
- Strategic, conceptual analytical thinking and decision-making skills.
- Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.
- Negotiating skills within a context of political sensitivity and conflicting interests.
- Proficiency with project management software tools.
Education and Experience
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 10 years’ related work, leadership, financial management, business development and consulting experience; or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams of project professionals; concurrently managing issues, scope and quality while bringing projects to successful completion within the cost and time requirements.
- Experience with complex transit systems infrastructure, including bus, light rail, heavy rail and subway technologies, facilities, stations and associated infrastructure.
- Experience in the delivery of plans, processes and strategies for good practice Systems Engineering.
