Intermountain Health Security Director

Location: West Valley City, Utah

This position ensures that the day-to-day operational and managerial needs of Security are met at each assigned facility. The position is responsible and accountable in providing leadership, management, budgetary controls, continuous improvement, and integration of all departmental operations and is responsible for ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local regulations, all accreditation agencies and Intermountain Healthcare Security policies.

Scope

Reporting to the Security Admin Director for Intermountain Healthcare, this position oversees business operations for Security Services at assigned facilities. Ensures a safe and secure environment for employees, patients, and visitors.

Responsible for department compliance with federal, state, and other regulatory bodies including The Joint Commission, OSHA, and other facility/department specific accrediting and certifying bodies.

Tracks and maintains appropriate departmental documentation.

Demonstrates a working knowledge of operational duties including but not limited to: Safety, Security, Environmental Safety, Hazardous Materials, Risk Management, Parking Enforcement, and Environment of Care.

Ensures the assigned facilities are safe and secure. Fosters positive working relationships with community agencies such as local Fire and Police departments.

Role models and fosters an environment of professionalism and employee engagement in the department.

Responsible for creating an effective department culture which ensures an engaged workforce. Ensures competent and sufficient number of staff to meet service needs, which include hiring, orientation, training, and managing staff. Facilitates and encourages staff development and competence.

Accountable to successfully manage departmental and capital budgets. Manages the day-to-day operations at assigned facilities.

May oversee facility environmental tours and regulatory compliance activities. Assumes (or delegates) responsibility for maintaining department safety policies and procedures.

Providing employee safety education and continuing safety education. Coordinating the tracking of hazardous chemicals.

Managing the Security Department's role in the facility Emergency Preparedness Program.

Documentation and reporting regarding regulated chemical waste management and disposal.

Maintaining the master file of SDS information.

Provides training for spill response as deemed necessary.

Conducts criminal investigations and assists assigned facilities in matters of litigation, loss prevention, and risk management.

Conducts security audits to determine loss vulnerabilities within department operation.

Assures that staff are properly trained in Security policies and procedures including but not limited to post orders, dress and appearance standards, safe application of restraints, arrest/control techniques, report writing, the force continuum, security surveillance and access control systems, and use of protective devices and non-lethal weapons.

Achieves operating results through strategic thinking, maintains a customer focus, builds relationships, develops people and motivates teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Five years of leadership experience in law enforcement or a security-related field.
  2. Demonstrated thorough knowledge of criminal activities and loss prevention techniques.
  3. Demonstrated report writing ability and public relations skills.
  4. Meets Intermountain Driver Qualification requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree. Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  2. Clear understanding of safety principles, emergency response practices, and Environment of Care.
  3. Working knowledge of chemicals in a health care setting.
  4. Taser training.
  5. Leadership experience in law enforcement or a security-related field.
  6. Understands and is able to demonstrate/teach de-escalation techniques.

Physical Requirements:

  • Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information and alarms particularly in emergency situations.
  • Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read computer monitors and documents.
  • Remain sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer, telephone, or other equipment.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to retrieve and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and to ascend and descend stairs or uneven surface in order to access areas in need of security services.
  • Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$43.67 - $67.41
