The Backhoe Operator will be responsible for operating heavy equipment, specifically backhoes, to perform excavation and earthmoving activities on various projects. This role is critical to ensuring the successful completion of construction tasks while adhering to safety and quality standards. The position is based onsite, providing a hands-on and dynamic work environment.Key ResponsibilitiesEquipment Operation:Safely operate backhoes and other heavy equipment to perform digging, trenching, backfilling, and other earthmoving tasks.Execute excavation activities according to project specifications, ensuring precision and adherence to design plans.Conduct pre-operational checks and routine maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.Site Preparation and Management:Assist in preparing job sites by clearing obstacles, grading surfaces, and setting up work zones.Coordinate with site supervisors and other crew members to ensure smooth and efficient workflow.Ensure the proper placement and handling of materials on site.Safety and Compliance:Follow all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment for yourself and others.Recognize and report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions to the site supervisor immediately.Comply with company policies, OSHA regulations, and industry standards at all times.Quality Control:Ensure that excavation work is performed to the highest standards, minimizing rework and maximizing efficiency.Monitor the quality of work and make adjustments as needed to meet project requirements.Assist in the verification of excavation dimensions and grades.Communication and Coordination:Maintain clear and effective communication with team members, supervisors, and other onsite personnel.Coordinate with other operators and laborers to facilitate the timely completion of tasks.Report progress, issues, and completion of tasks to the site supervisor regularly.Required QualificationsExperience: Minimum of 3 years of experience operating backhoes or similar heavy equipment in construction, excavation, or related industries.Licensing: Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) and any relevant equipment operator certifications.Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating and maintaining backhoes and related equipment. Ability to read and interpret site plans and blueprints.Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in heavy equipment operation.Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, digging, and working in various weather conditions.Communication Skills: Good communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.Preferred ExperienceIndustry Experience: Experience in the oil and gas, power generation, or industrial construction sectors.Additional Equipment: Experience operating other types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, bulldozers, or loaders.Certifications: Certification in OSHA safety courses or related training.Work EnvironmentTotal-Western, Inc. prides itself on providing a safe, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
