About the Role


Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) Newark office is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager - Design and Construction (PE or SE Licensed) to join our Team! We are a leading engineering firm known for quality, responsiveness, and a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. As the Senior Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading the office by developing and building a highly motivated team while overseeing the delivery of a diverse projects' portfolio consisting of design and construction inspection services. This position will cultivate existing client relationships and lead the pursuit and securing of opportunities with various new public and private clients in alignment with the current strategic business plan. This position will provide office leadership, project delivery oversight, operational management, and business planning in close partnership with IEI's senior leadership team. The ideal candidate will bring established relationships with market clients and communities in various sectors and levels to identify and secure new work. The Operations Manager will use their substantial project and program management skills to hire, mentor, and grow an excellent team and conduct and oversee the work. This position, amongst many other duties, will develop and monitor workload, staffing, and budget projections and be responsible for the overall performance and productivity of the office. Essential Duties/Functions and Responsibilities


  • Actively supervises design and inspection to ensure IEI policies and procedures are adhered to and works closely with Human Resources on all aspects of the employee life cycle.
  • Develops forecasts for staffing needs compared to available capacity locally and firm-wide.
  • Ensures all projects comply with Quality Control guidelines to improve overall quality and accuracy.
  • Ensures the project delivery team monitors clients' project delivery goals and proactively identifies issues and obstacles which may compromise or influence the achievement of such goals.
  • Ensures the project delivery team safeguards the firm's exposure against risks associated with scope and scope creep, fees, and schedule by monitoring them and promptly communicating deviations to the clients.
  • Ensures the project delivery team secures executed contracts, Notice to Proceed, and Subconsultant Agreements before the inception of project services.
  • Manages technical staff within the office and coordinates with other office leaders in assigning and securing required technical and other tangible resources for project delivery.
  • Oversees and directs all disciplines to ensure delivery of all project elements (plans, specs, permits, reports, etc.) are technically accurate.
  • Oversees and directs contract negotiations with clients in developing scope, fees, and schedule.
  • Regularly coordinates and updates the Executive Vice President regarding the performance of the office.
  • Works closely with the Vice President of Operations and EVP in assigning and securing required technical and other tangible resources for project delivery.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited four‐year college or university or approved equivalent.
  • Active Registered Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer required.
  • Additional registrations and accreditations (i.e., LEED AP, Certified Floodplain Manager, PTOE, etc.) are desired.
  • Other licensure or registration (must require Continuing Education to remain active) may be considered in lieu of Professional Engineer or Structural Engineer Licensure.

Work Conditions

  • IEI will provide a company vehicle for fieldwork with acceptable driver's record.
  • Must be physically capable of walking and moving about on the construction sites, have good hand-eye coordination, and occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions or in-progress construction hazards: fumes, toxic chemicals, risk of electric shock, and vibration. Often works around dust, asphalt, and concrete.
  • Sometimes needs to put in extra hours, including weekends, to keep up with intense construction work at times and deal with unexpected situations and accidents.
  • Spends some time working indoors to review blueprints and write reports.
  • Usually works a standard 40-hour workweek either daytime or nighttime.
  • Usually works in outside weather conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work outdoors in various weather conditions, possibly for an extended period of time, depending on the assignment type.
