Our client, a prestigious ivy league research university, is actively looking for a Fabrication Manager (Teaching & Learning) to join their Science & Engineering School in Allston, MA! This role is fully onsite so local candidates are required.


***This is an initial 8 month contract with the opportunity to extend or convert***


This Fabrication Manager (Training & Learning) will serve an important role in fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment within the Science & Engineering School. Thie ideal candidate demonstrates a passion for instructing and working with students; training, coaching, mentoring, and sharing knowledge in machining; and ensuring a safe fabrication shop environment.


Responsibilities

  • Instruct students (undergraduate and graduate) and post docs on various machine shop and fabrication techniques
  • Deliver extended Shop training 1-on-1 and in small groups
  • Collaborate and consult with faculty, staff, and students on research projects, student projects and other shop related activities
  • Oversee machining/fabrication activities in the Design and Fabrication Shop and Garages during regular Shop hours
  • Assist Teaching and Learning group staff with the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instruction documents for fabrication equipment
  • Work with internal Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) officers to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and standards
  • Procurement responsibilities - monitoring consumables inventories and placing orders to replenish stock materials as needed
  • Communicate with vendors to schedule service/repair appointments, obtain quotes, preparing purchase requisitions as needed for ordering equipment or paying invoices.
  • Troubleshoot equipment for basic repairs, perform basic preventive maintenance tasks on shop equipment


Required Skills & Experience

  • College degree
  • 3+ years of experience within Manual Machining (mill, lathe, etc.) and experience with Prototrak/Mastercam
  • Automotive/Mechanic work experience a plus
  • Teaching/mentoring experience is a plus
