Principal Responsibilities:
The Senior Director of Youth, Camp, and Talent provides vision, leadership, and overall management and oversight of the Children & Youth and Camp departments. These departments function primarily at the main campus of the Tucson J and include a variety of programs. These programs are: Summer and Winter Camp J, J-Care after-school program, School Days Out programs, monthly Parent's Night Out, BBYO, JCC Maccabi, teen and tween programming, birthday parties, private piano lessons, and private tutoring. In addition, this role manages key functions related to Talent and HR.
Key aspects of this role includes being present and being a warm and welcoming "face" of the J, ensuring innovative and dynamic programming, and exceeding expectations while meeting the needs of the program participants and their families.
A primary function of this and every other job at the "J" is to ensure by whatever rational and legal means necessary that each member, guest and visitor leaves the "J" feeling just a little better than when they arrived.
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working with the relevant program directors on the development and implementation of department strategy, vision, and goals
- Responsible for working with the relevant program directors on creating, implementing, and maintaining department budget including annual budget creation, monthly review and analysis, and reforecasting
- Will provide direct supervision, coaching, and leadership for the Director of Camping Services, Director of Afterschool Programming, Director of Teen Engagement, and any seasonal leadership and design and ensure effective supervision, training, and development for department staff teams
- Responsible for the strategy and initiatives around Pre-K engagement and ECE to Kindergarten retention
- Will regularly communicate the Children, Youth, and Camp core purpose and how program goals and initiatives connect to the vision for the department and the mission of the Tucson JCC
- Will develop an evaluation plan to use data metrics and feedback to ensure program quality, track goals, maintain strategic direction, and continue toward excellence
- Will ensure the compliance and maintenance of all State Childcare Licensing, State Department of Developmental Disabilities, and American Camp Association requirements including policies, procedures, records, and documentation
- Will partner with the Administrative Assistant to oversee new employee orientation, Tarbut 1st day training program
- Will assist in ensuring consistency in job description format and structure across the agency
- Will assist in ensuring consistency in interviewing process across the agency including organizing and providing resources and guidance
- Will manage the on-boarding and off-boarding process in collaboration with hiring managers, ensuring thoroughness and consistency; this includes conducting exit interviews as part of off-boarding
- Responsible for conducting employee experience interviews with new employees after their first 60 days of employment
- Will oversee employee talent development initiatives including co-managing the online learning platform
- Will collaborate with Chief Program Officer to redesign performance management process and then manage the performance management process for the agency
- Will collaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department to develop a marketing plan for publicity, storytelling, and recruitment
- Will collaborate with the Development team to identify external funding opportunities and grants
- Will participate as an active member of the Tucson JCC Manhig (Leadership) team and work collaboratively with other JCC departments
- Will attend all staff meetings and events and fulfill other responsibilities as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- 3+ years of experience directing camps in day or overnight setting, preferably JCC camping
- At least 5+ years' supervisory experience
- Record of success in staff on-boarding, training, and development
- Strong organizational and administrative skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Extensive customer service skills
- Knowledge of Jewish culture, traditions, and community
Salary:
$75,000 - $85,000
