THE ROLE

Thrive Market’s Data Engineering team is seeking a Senior Data Engineer!

We are looking for a brilliant, dedicated, and hardworking engineer to help us build high-impact products alongside our Data Strategy Team. Thrive Market sees millions of unique visitors every month, and we are one of the fastest-growing e-commerce companies in the country. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with hands-on experience working on structured/semi-structured/Complex data processing and streaming frameworks. We need your amazing software engineering skills to help us execute our Data Engineering & Analytics initiatives and support our Finance and Accounting teams with revenue recognition, inventory management, etc. In this role, we are hoping to bring someone in who is equally excited about our mission, learning the tech behind the company, and can work cross-functionally with other engineering teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with Finance and Accounting teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications
  • Collaborate with technical teams to deliver data solutions that meet business and technical requirements
  • Lead the ongoing development of a specialized Operational Data Store (ODS) that integrates with NetSuite to create a SOX-compliant automated order-to-cash process
  • Be hands-on and take full ownership of the entire data services lifecycle, including requirements gathering, data profiling, data ingestion, ETL development, and validation of data products for reporting and analysis
  • Architect data modeling and ETL processes to ensure data is transformed accurately and promptly, with clear audit logs recorded
  • Develop a thorough knowledge and understanding of cross-system integration, interactions, and relationships to develop an enterprise view of Thrive Market’s future data needs
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve production data integrity and performance issues
  • Work across multiple projects and efforts to orchestrate and deliver cohesive data engineering solutions in partnership with various functional teams at Thrive Market
  • Recommend/Ensure technical functionality (e.g. scalability, security, performance, data recovery, reliability, audibility, etc.) for Data Engineering
  • Apply enterprise and solution architecture decisions to data architecture frameworks and data models

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 8+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related roles within the retail industry
  • Strong understanding of retail operations, including inventory management, logistics, revenue recognition, and customer behavior, to ensure data solutions align with financial goals and business needs
  • Advanced understanding of SQL with experience in writing complex queries for data transformation and reporting
  • Experience in using DBT to transform and model data in various Cloud Data Warehouses
  • Solid programming skills in Python for data processing, automation, and integration tasks
  • Expertise in Snowflake data warehouse architecture, including performance tuning and optimization
  • In-depth knowledge and experience with data and information architecture patterns and implementation approaches for Operational Data Stores, Data Warehouses, Data Marts, and Data Lakes
  • Strong proficiency with integration tools and platforms such as Apache Airflow, Fivetran, and message queuing systems
  • Proficiency in logical/physical data architecture, design, and development
  • Strong ability to work independently (hands-on) while also being an effective team player
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly when navigating loosely defined issues or conflicting information
  • Strong data sense with the ability to effectively identify and query errors in mission-critical data systems
  • Adept in the ability to elicit, gather, and manage requirements in an Agile delivery environment
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (verbal, written, presentation) across all levels of the organization. Ability to translate ambiguous concepts into tangible ideas

  • Strong understanding of public company financial reporting and accounting principles in the context of e-commerce and retail
  • Experience with financial reporting tools and delivering high-quality reports and dashboards
  • Experience with Development Tools for CI/CD, Unit and Integration testing, Automation, and Orchestration E.g. GitHub, Jenkins, Concourse, Airflow, Terraform
  • Experience in working with streaming and real-time data processing.

  • Compensation Description - The base salary range for this position is $160,000 - $190,000/Per Year.
  • Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and geographic location.
