Our investment team is seeking a drivenFixed Income Analyst . This key role will play a contributing part in ensuring RIO fulfills its mission, vision, and values.
As theFixed Income Analyst , you will partner with the RIO investment team to optimize investment performance.
Key responsibilities include research, security selection recommendations, support of the portfolio strategy development, management and trading of active fixed income strategies, including an intermediate government/credit internal enhanced index portfolio, model portfolio implementation, ETF portfolios, derivative overlays, collateral portfolios, and liquidity optimization.
With respect to the total portfolio overlays, this role is responsible for overseeing the management and trading of derivative portfolios designed to rebalance and maintain each pool's total portfolio level target exposures for fixed income risk.
As the Fixed Income Analyst , you will also help to develop investment strategies for pension funds, an endowment structure, and insurance trusts. The internal fixed income organization is new for the North Dakota Retirement and Investment Office, so this role will assist with research and recommendations for crafting the internal fixed income strategy,
To thrive in this role, you should have investment experience and credentials; other quantitative and risk management investment experience is preferred. Effective communication and collaboration with team members, stakeholders, and public and private organizations are essential for this position.
Position reports to the Portfolio Manager of Internal Fixed Income.
Location: RIO is located in Bismarck, ND. This position is based onsite at our office location in Bismarck, ND. We offer a hybrid work schedule that may allow the candidate an option to telecommute from home one to two days per week.
Salary Range: $60,000 to $135,000 annually commensurate with experience. This role may be eligible for a discretionary incentive compensation plan based on performance.
You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, economics, finance, mathematics, or business (with an emphasis in investments, economics, finance, accounting, or related investment content), or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and Excel.
  • Prior internship or work experience in investment funds management.
Note: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
We'd love to see:
  • 3+ years of relevant experience working in a similar fixed income investment role.
  • MBA, MS in Finance, CFA and other investment related credentials.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • A sophisticated understanding of investment vehicles, investment statistics/metrics, portfolio theory, capital markets and the investment process is desired.
  • Experience working for an entity (e.g. public agency or private corporation) that has a major investment program.
  • A high degree of proficiency with windows-based software for word processing, spreadsheets, quantitative tools such as python programming language, risk and performance systems and concepts, and database management.
  • Advanced excel skills.
  • Knowledge and ability to use investment related software.
