About Raw Art Works (RAW):

Raw Art Works (RAW) is a community arts organization founded in 1988, dedicated to empowering young people through art therapy. RAW provides a safe, inclusive space where youth aged 8-19 can express themselves creatively, process life experiences, and develop essential skills for their futures. RAW's programs include visual arts, digital film school classes, leadership development, and college and career access initiatives, serving over 350 youth annually. Role Overview:

The Development Director at RAW plays a pivotal role in advancing the organization's mission by overseeing all fundraising activities and fostering meaningful relationships with donors and stakeholders. Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as a member of the Leadership Team, the Development Director leads a team responsible for raising over $3 million annually and aims to significantly increase revenue to support RAW's growth.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy aligned with RAW's long-term goals and recent development assessment.
  • Lead and mentor the development team to execute fundraising initiatives, including individual, foundation, government, and corporate support.
Strategic Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with senior leadership on strategic planning to ensure fundraising efforts align with organizational objectives.
Donor Relations:

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with current and prospective donors, including major institutional and individual supporters.
Grant and Gift Management:

  • Oversee grant proposals, gift requests, and donor communications, ensuring excellence in written and verbal correspondence.
External Representation:

  • Represent RAW externally as a spokesperson at events, committees, and community engagements.
Development Operations:

  • Supervise development operations, including budgeting, reporting, and CRM database management.
Brand Consistency:

  • Uphold RAW's brand consistency across all development materials and communications.
Strategic Advice:

  • Provide strategic advice to the Executive Director and Board on philanthropic activities and trends.
Traits and Characteristics:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • Fundraising Experience: Strong fundraising experience in a leadership role within a nonprofit setting.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven Track Record: Proven track record of successfully meeting fundraising goals and cultivating donor relationships.
  • Strategic Thinking: Strategic thinking and organizational skills, capable of managing multiple priorities effectively.
  • Commitment to DEI: Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in development practices.
  • Team Leadership: Ability to lead and motivate a team, fostering collaboration and professional growth.
  • Results Orientation: Self-directed and results-oriented with a passion for youth empowerment through the arts.
Key Qualifications:

  • Experience: 5-7+ years of fundraising management experience in a mid-to-large-sized nonprofit.
  • Skills: Proficiency in project management, budget development, and CRM systems.
  • Expertise: Experience in individual giving, foundation relations, and grant writing.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills for data-driven decision-making.
  • Commitment: Demonstrated commitment to advancing organizational goals with resilience and determination.
