Job Summary:

The Institute for Research on Poverty (IRP) is a nonpartisan research institution dedicated to producing and disseminating rigorous evidence to inform policies and programs to combat poverty, inequality, and their effects in the United States. IRP seeks an Outreach Specialist to join our friendly, supportive, and dynamic team. The main responsibilities include working with IRP's many partners (e.g., faculty, students, staff, federal and state policymakers, and other poverty research centers throughout the country), coordinating events and trainings, and conducting outreach to broaden the reach of IRP opportunities. Your work will help to combat poverty and inequality!

Responsibilities:
Delivers and assists with planning outreach program activities, strengthens partnerships, ensures adherence to policy, and assists with program administration to promote stable and productive relationships between the university and local community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences. May assist with tracking and managing the outreach program budget.
  • 15% Identifies, promotes, and maintains external partnerships to support the outreach program
  • 35% Schedules and secures resources and communicates logistics in support of an outreach program
  • 5% Delivers outreach program content and materials to community members
  • 15% Researches, develops, and facilitates outreach program content and materials
  • 10% Develops and evaluates curriculum and programs and provides recommendations for improvement
  • 5% May assist with the monitoring of outreach program budget spending
  • 10% Leads the implementation of programs, policies, and procedures through oversight of day-to-day activities for program staff and student and community volunteers
  • 5% Completes tasks associated with serving as first point of contact for IRP; e.g., providing logistical support for visitors, maintenance of partner contact information, managing office space, and responding to general communications

Education:

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree
Social Sciences or related field

Qualifications:

Required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with diverse audiences, including students, faculty, staff, community-based organizations and state, local, and federal agencies
- Ability to work independently on complex projects, handling multiple priorities, demonstrating effective time-management and organizational skills, and proactively problem-solve
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player within a small professional staff
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and adhere to complex policies and procedures
- Strong working knowledge of basic office software (e.g., Google suite, Microsoft Office suite, Outlook)
Preferred
- Experience with or ability to learn email/marketing software, survey software, online forms, basic web posting
- Experience with or ability to learn marketing concepts, especially use of social media to conduct outreach
- Experience with or ability to learn event planning
- Experience with or ability to learn and follow UW policies and systems, especially as they relate to travel and events
- Knowledge of or lived experience with social service programs

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $48,107 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $58,450 - $79,136 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays, and paid time off; competitive insurances and savings accounts;
retirement benefits.
