POSITION SUMMARY
The Communications and Project Manager role is comprised of two essential roles. The communications side of this position is a strong voice that builds and reinforces Crystal's core brand, utilizing both written and verbal skills to support the Sales and Marketing Business Unit as well as all departments and the senior leadership team at Crystal. This position will manage the internal and external communication channels for the resort by building communications plans, writing company announcements for the COO and Senior Leadership team, and overseeing the Snow Reporters and Communications Specialists. The Communications and Project Manager will also be responsible for delivering the PR strategy, including writing press releases and managing earned media relationships as well as guiding social media and all communications across Crytal's owned channels (website, blog, etc.) through direct project work and management of direct reports.
The project manager side of this role is a strategic, detail-oriented, self-motivated individual, and has the ability to look at a task, project, or goal from a big-picture approach without losing sight of the fine details. This role works with the VP of Marketing and Sales to prioritize projects across the resort, break them down into deliverables and make sure cross functional team members are delivering their respective deliverables on-time. This role will be a mega meeting scheduler, set and lead efficient agendas, master note taking and follow-up.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
General:
- Work in support of brand, marketing operations, digital marketing, sales, and events/partnerships strategies and initiatives and assist in setting short-term and long-term goals and priorities within the department.
- Organize and/or attend stakeholder meetings to develop and maintain strategic launches, product development, etc.
- Manage and develop Communications Specialist and Seasonal Snow Reporter to respective job descriptions, daily deliverables and development plans.
- Delegate tasks to, coach and mentor Communications Specialist and Seasonal Snow Reporter to deliver Communications deliverables; including daily snow and weather report
- Collaborate through a dotted line reporting structure to Sr. Marketing Manager
- Be on-mountain to build culture, be the pulse of mountain communications with our guests and manage snow reporter 3 to 4 days per week and periodically staff on- and off-site events, including occasional weekends and evenings to be mutually agreed upon
- Work through ambiguity to develop the big message or deliver a project
- Create, manage and execute annual integrated marketing communications plan to include, but not limited to public relations, earned media, social media, newsletter, blog and internal communication touch points (excluding HR related communications); including corresponding campaign and product communications plan to the launch plan.
- Create and maintain an annual marketing communications calendar for internal and external messaging
- Deliver compelling brand stories to secure media coverage across local, national, and international outlets
- Manage PR contacts and build/maintain media relationships
- Brief executives on major resort talking points specific to media inquiries, pre and post media follow-up
- Provide written copy for senior leadership team and president public announcements, comments, and any other statements
- Distribute press releases and act as resort spokesperson when needed
- Crisis communication co-management with senior leadership team and VP of Marketing and Sales
- Copywriting; provide written copy to support internal and external communication such as press releases, talking points, FAQs, and seasonal fact sheets, including operating hours
- Manage Social Media content and strategy
- Create, manage and execute campaign and product communication plans
- Co-manage content needs, shot lists, and relationships with photographers, videographers, and professional athletes with Creative Services and Marketing Specialists
- Provide support, templates, translations, and best practices for communications across company
- Help staff support and staff marketing and sales events on and off-mountain
- Help fulfill Alterra Mountain Company's and Ikon's PR needs of Crystal Mountain for company-wide campaigns
- Agency management when agency is engaged
Project Management:
- Manage Program Management Product Team Deliverables; finalize, edit and proof campaign and product launch plans in collaboration with Sr. Marketing Manager and Marketing Specialist
- Keep teams on track to strategically meet company needs through marketing and resort priority project efforts
- Work to ensure that all cross-functional teams are receiving the most up-to-date and accurate information as it relates to products, promotions, announcements, etc.
- Clearly outline and communicate in task management programs, via Teams, email, and in-person/virtual meetings project details, timelines, and individual expectations
- Assign tasks to appropriate team members and provide essential information to complete the projects
- Manage all incoming requests via Freshservice Tickets, email, Teams, or verbally discussed in meetings or calls; create corresponding Asana tasks as needed
- Serve as "information seeker" - work across all departments to gather the necessary information to complete a project or launch a project successfully
- Outline in detail and delegate what needs to be done by each member to complete tasks.
- Assist in various capacities in photo shoots and video shoots
- Update web alerts
- Additional duties as assigned
- Availability to work Tuesday-Saturday, and some Sundays schedule in the winter; as well as special weekend events in the summer.
- Availability to periodically staff marketing events on or off-site
- Availability to travel to domestic media events, meetings, conferences, and trade shows
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Business, Management, or related fields preferred.
- 3 years+ experience in public relations, media, press, and/or journalism
- 2 years+ of project management experience preferred.
- 2 years+ experience in copywriting
- 2 years+ of managing people
- Strong analytical skills combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent PC skills (MS Office) required. Experience with Asana preferred. Role also utilizes SmartSheet.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt and grow as business needs change.
- Ability to work in a self-directed environment.
- Background in ski resort or hospitality industry preferred.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other common office equipment on a constant basis.
- Auditory and visual acuity to operate computers, phones, mobile devices, and basic office equipment on a constant basis.
- The ability to work for extended periods of time sitting, bending, reaching, and speaking on a constant basis.
- Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors, and other employees.
