Duties:
This position may be classified as an Engineer I (A12 $61,011.10 to $94,567.21), Engineer II (A14 $67,264.80 to $104,260.44), or Engineer III (A.17 $77,867.40 to $120,694.47), depending on qualifications and experience of the selected applicant.
This position will assist in the management of the department's stormwater maintenance program as part of the Engineering and Construction Bureau within Public Works Operations Stormwater Division. Representative responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Assist in the management of the department's stormwater maintenance capital improvement programs (CIP) by tracking project budgets, expenditures, and progress.
• Project management oversight of the design, permitting, and review of construction plans and specifications for maintenance related projects of storm drainage systems such as storm water pump stations, flood control structures, or lake and canal dredging.
• Field engineering and evaluations, field inspections and/or investigations as needed for stormwater-related issues.
• Management support for operation and maintenance of public drainage facilities.
• Utilize the principles and procedures of engineering as it relates to municipal work.
• Apply engineering design standards and administrative procedures and to projects in varied situations including all areas of engineering and construction and city contract administration.
• Apply knowledge of local and state ordinances as they relate to construction and various stormwater management operations and standards.
• Review construction plans and specifications for stormwater pump stations, pipe rehabilitation, lake and canal dredging, Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System MS-4 permit compliance projects, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) flood mitigation assistance grant program projects.
• Review plans for erosion and sediment control and stormwater management requirements .
• Review designs for municipal and private developments within the corporate limits of the city and related work as required, inclusive of commercial and residential site plans, subdivision plans, highway plans, storm drainage design, and water and sanitary sewer design for city operations.
• Perform basic design of minor stormwater-related projects.
• Coordinate and resolve conflicts with City departments, outside agencies, contractors, and the public.
• Conduct or assist with public meetings.
**This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work more than their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies **
All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.
