Job Title: Lactation Consultant
Weekly Hours: Full-time
Location: Breastfeeding Center at Parkside - Verdae
Position Overview: Maintain “Parkside Way” while providing breastfeeding and human lactation support including assessing the latching and feeding process, providing corrective interventions, counseling mothers, understanding and applying knowledge of milk production including in special circumstances and other common situations encountered during lactation, while working together as a team with fellow lactation consultants and other Breastfeeding Center teammates.
Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical care as an IBCLC by providing anticipatory guidance to promote optimal breastfeeding practices and minimize the potential for breastfeeding problems or complications. Document all care and assessments and develop feeding plans that will attempt to help meet patient’s breastfeeding goals and promote optimal growth in infant. (40%)
- Provide positive feedback to and emotionally support dyads to promote continued breastfeeding and share current evidence-based information with them. Utilize clinical lactation skills and decision-making in collaboration with other health care professionals. Document all support given. (30%)
- Provide continuing care and support to patients that reach out for support via phone or web message. Document advice and support given. (15%)
- Perform basic lab skills including, but not limited to, heel sticks, lab collection and administration of immunizations/injections. (10%)
- Collaborate with team to achieve goals of Breastfeeding Center. (5%)
Required Education & Certifications:
- Healthcare certification such as MA, RT, CNA, or LPN/RN (preferred)
- Current IBCLC certification or be currently seeking certification
- One year experience working in an outpatient/physician office setting and/or Lactation services within any medical facility
- Must obtain IBCLC within 1 year of starting position, current IBCLC preferred
Work environment and Physical Demands: Requires sitting, standing, and walking associated with a normal physician office environment. Person may be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, infectious diseases, blood/bodily fluids, and disease-bearing specimens.
