GAI Consultants is seeking a Technical Specialist 4 (Transportation) with 6+ years of experience developing roadway design projects for PennDOT. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervising entry level staff and CAD staff.
  • Leading the design and technical direction for roadway transportation projects.
  • Deliverables may include Reports, Contract Drawings, Special Provisions, Specifications, Permits, Quantities, and Opinions of Probable Cost.
  • Leading the coordination with interfacing disciplines.
  • Maintaining proficiency with engineering software.
  • The candidate will be responsible for maintaining the budget, schedule, and quality of Tasks and being up to speed on regulation changes and agency protocols and requirements.
  • Domestic travel for periodic project site visits or client meetings (up to 25% of the time).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's (B.S.) degree from an accredited college in Civil Engineering (M.S. degree a plus)
  • Ability to obtain Engineer-in-Training certification within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and work independently as needed on project-specific tasks.
  • Ability to be efficient in planning and organizing workload.
  • Dedicated commitment to performing quality work with a positive attitude and work ethic.
  • Knowledge of MicroStation and its use to generate roadway drawings.

  • Ability to hike moderate distances through unimproved terrain, walk across uneven surfaces, etc.
  • Ability to hear and visualize potential hazards during fieldwork or site visit situations.
  • The successful candidate will be required to complete a pre-employment drug screening.

Education

  • S. Engineering or other technical degree

Certification/Licensure

  • Driver's License

Technical Responsibilities

  • Supports design of complete project, system, component, or process.
  • Frequently supports the preparation of complete plans, specifications, and other project documents.
  • Supports designs and conducts analyses and interprets test data.

Project and Task Management

  • Assigns tasks to and directs other technical and nontechnical staff.
  • Frequently plans and coordinates detailed aspects of the engineering work.
  • Frequently prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives general direction on key objectives. Receives guidance, when necessary, on unconventional/complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Assists with mentored experience to direct reports and junior staff by providing guidance, explaining professional responsibilities, and reviewing work products.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspects of engineering assignments.

Communication Skills

  • Communicates effectively to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
