Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: 

A qualified individual holding certification in CSR with administrative accountability to designated service area. Collaborates with OR/CSR manager and Surgical Services Director to plan, staffing needs, and oversee competency of staff. Responsible for the instrumentation processing, which includes the decontamination and sterile prep area. Demonstrates expertise in instrumentation reprocessing and infection control practices. Basic computer skills, use of Microsoft office programs, SMART, GHX.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Demonstrates critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, and leadership in planning, directing, and provision of processes that directly affect patient care. Works cooperatively within department and other services; to create a system that provides quality health care. Determines staffing requirements; assists with interviewing and hiring personnel for department, conducting yearly performance appraisal for all staff.

  • Demonstrates a patient and customer centered philosophy (versus a unit centered philosophy). Thus wherever our attention to patient care is needed, we respond.
  • Demonstrates excellent listening skills. e.g. hearing and responding especially to staff frustrations as quickly as possible, communicating clearly what can and can't be done and what is being done.
  • Remains clinically excellent, and focuses on developing others to assume those roles. Risk taking in coaching, but allowing, within reason, the behavior that others to whom managing is delegated, may not do it with same level of expertise.
  • Successfully assumes resource role responsibility: Responsible for instrument processing area and assignments as needed to meet the needs of the surgical team instrument requests and departments.
  • Participates in employee selection process; Recommends corrective and other employee actions to CSR Manager. Assists with evaluations in a constructive manner to ensure improved employee performance. Assists CSR Manager and Director in coaching, counseling, and disciplining staff per hospital policy.
  • Directs, supervises and assist with the daily work load in the CSR, instrument processing and decontamination of surgical instrumentation and equipment.
  • Directs, supervises and assists with instrument processing technicians in maintaining accurate records on sterilization.
  • Assists in visual inspection, assembly and wrapping of sterile instruments prior to sterilization.
  • Assists with the care and maintenance of equipment and instrumentation.
  • Assists CSR Manager in determining department needs, and makes recommendations for improvements, new equipment and supplies. Ordering supplies to maintain stock for both CSR and OR tray inventory.
  • Directs and assists with cleaning and environmental surfaces and equipment to maintain function and asepsis.
  • In collaboration with CSR Manager and Director, manages department's compliance with JCAHO and other regulatory and safety standards.
  • Fosters supportive attitude and teamwork.
  • Assists in the daily management/ operations functions related to staffing, scheduling and materials management. Maximizes unit efficiency and demonstrates a cost-effective approach to the delivery of services.
  • Acts independently in the absence of CSR Manager and Director in carrying out overall unit operations and decision-making.
  • Assists with development and implementation of new services as well as new policies and protocols. Conducts orientation of new staff as well as coordinating maintaining competency in all staff. Acts as a preceptor to new hire staff.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
  • 1-3 Years Experience Preferred
  • High School Graduate / GED
