Job Description
1. Log into EPIC to view the accounts assigned to you on your work queue and other work queues specified by leadership and/or the leader assigning cases for the day.
2. Check Media Manager for insurance cards, and documents that may have insurance info listed or other pertinent information that would be beneficial and would aide in verifying coverage (SSNs, out of state IDs, Ambulance/EMS Reports, transfer documents, etc).
3. If you have substantial patient's info at hand, perform systems checks for insurance coverage via RTE and if necessary, OAM, EDM, E-PACES, HHS connect, Bluemark and other Insurance Websites.
4. If eligibility is verified via website, scan or upload the proof of verification.
*If RTE verified the patient's coverage, scanning of eligibility is not needed.
5. Follow-up with an interview upon receiving into your EPIC Work queue and make a second interview attempt if necessary.
6. Prepare an interview package with all forms that require signatures to complete Medicaid applications and to bill insurances (in case you identify insurance during the interview).
7. When interviewing patients, be sure to verify demographic information. If insurance is identified, ask for subscriber demographic information to avoid issues with discrepancy when you verify their coverage via RTE or the websites.
8. Create a Finance Assistance Case after the interview has been conducted.
9. Create Financial Trackers as necessary
10. For patients without insurance (true self-pay) based on assessment or patient's request complete a Medicaid application via NYSOH (assess for disability MA application/Surplus prior to submitting via
NYSOH) or Bluemark. Create Medicaid Application Financial Tracker.
11. If the application is denied, Medicaid eligibility does not cover the admission, or the patient only qualifies for a QHP, follow the next steps to enroll the patient in H+H options. Create an H+H Options Tracker.
12. Throughout the day, monitor your WA and pay close attention to newly incoming accounts. Review accounts and check for prior admissions, which may be assigned to another HCl.
13. For discharged patients, contacting the patient by telephone or mail.
14. Check outcome of MA applications and update findings via on your trackers and account notes.
15. Perform other duties as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
2.An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; and completion of an accredited certificate program in medical billing; or
3.A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and completion of an accredited certificate program in medical billing; and two (2) years of full-time experience in interviewing, investigation, or a related field, such as credit and collection follow-up or bookkeeping, or as a customer service representative providing comprehensive customer service entailing the dispensing of information or listening to and resolving customer's concerns, problems and complaints or troubleshooting; or
4.A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent; and four (4) years of full-time experience, as described in #3 above, at least two years of which must have been in interviewing, investigations, or a related field such as credit and collection follow-up or bookkeeping; or
5.Education and/or experience which is equivalent to (1), (2), (3) or (4) above. College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that thirty (30) semester credits are equivalent to one (1) year of experience and candidates must have completed an accredited certificate program in medical billing or have at least two years of full-time experience in interviewing, investigations, or a related field such as credit and collection follow-up or bookkeeping. In addition, all candidates must have at least a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
