JOB SUMMARY
The Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting providers and nurses with providing care to patients.
Performs daily duties including triage of patients, electronic documentation and performing injections. Assisting with wellness visits and sports physicals. Scheduling patients, making referrals, and obtaining authorizations.
JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONAL SKILLS
Competency General Patient Care:
Must be able to accurately enter patient history and personal info, measure vital signs, (such as BP, weight, etc.) Welcome patients and prepare them for the visit. Must be able to prepare examination rooms. Must identify patients and complete a comprehensive clinical intake process, including the purpose of the visit. Measure vital signs and obtain anthropometric measurements. Needs to identify/document/report abnormal signs and symptoms and assist providers with general physical/specialty examinations. Must prepare patients for procedures and administer medications/vaccinations/injectables using non-parenteral and parenteral routes. The role requires the ability to carry out common medical assistant responsibilities, which encompass providing care restricted to the procedures outlined in the basic procedure list. Procedures on this procedure list will be performed under the direct supervision of a provider, including supervision of injections. Chart patient care and assessments and ensure proper documentation of treatments and patient information. Update billing records and keep files current. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Will typically be located at the TVTCC, inside Grafton City Hospital.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Post-high school vocational/ specialized training is preferred, for example:
- Associate Degree of Nursing (ASA), Associate Degree of Medical Assistant (ADA) Certificate of Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or equivalent health care certificate.
- 6 to 12 months of previous medical clinic experience is preferred but not required
- Experience with EMR (electronic medical records) and medical terminology is preferred.
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) preferred.
- MA Certification or department training is required to give injections.
- Must have CPR certification or be able to obtain one within the first 90 days.
