Houston Zoo is seeking an HVAC Supervisor to join the Facilities department. This position will be responsible for supervising and training the HVAC team, and coordinating daily activities of personnel engaged in HVAC. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in providing excellent environmental services, facilities upkeep, and ensure the highest degree of project facilitation from beginning to end.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Preparing and submitting required reports and maintaining budget goals
  2. Supervise/manage/direct the selection, training, development, appraisal, and work assignments of personnel
  3. Inspect quality of work performed by crews and contractors in area of responsibility and prepare reports concerning the work
  4. Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions; install, replace, or repair damaged equipment
  5. Install new heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems
  6. Inspect and service refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, ice machines, gas packs and heat pumps
  7. Maintain the chilled and hot water supply systems
  8. Assemble and install metal ductwork
  9. Assist in planning and designing of new installations of heating and air-conditioning systems
  10. Maintain maintenance records as required by City, State and EPA regulations
  11. Train personnel in work procedures and requirements ensuring proper use of equipment and PPE
  12. Manage multiple projects at one time and prioritize appropriately while communicating scope of work with other departments
  13. Establish work standards and procedures and evaluate results
  14. Order supplies, parts, chemicals and other materials while maintaining area within budget
  15. Contribute to saving animals in the wild through reduction of waste, water and energy use and inspiring guests and staff to take wildlife protecting actions
  16. This is a working Supervisor position. When needed, you will be fully expected to work side by side with your team should they lag on work or work orders
  17. Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree (B.A.); Five (5) years related supervisory experience in a commercial HVAC environment
  2. Two years of experience in building or mechanical HVAC system maintenance is required
  3. Class A TDLR License required
  4. Universal EPA Certification required
  5. Experienced in interpreting building codes and regulations as they relate to HVAC
  6. Ability to interpret blueprints, floor plans and wiring diagrams
  7. Ability to read and interpret City, State and EPA regulations
  8. Possession of an EPA Refrigerant Technician Type I and II certification on the date of application
  9. Possession of an EPA Refrigerant Technician Universal certification on the date of application
  10. Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and comply with the policy on driving
