Job summary:
The Deputy Finance Director reports directly to the Director of Finance. This position will participate in cross-functional training with the director to manage all financial aspects, including overseeing cash flow planning, preparing and reviewing budgets, investments, and audit activities for the organization. This position is responsible for ensuring that FIRC manages resources in the most beneficial way and helps maximize our funding, while aligning with the Organization’s strategic goals, mission, vision, and values.

Primary responsibilities:
- Oversee cash flow management and become familiar with the Organization’s financial management systems and banking relationships.
- Supervise the Accountant and potential finance team members to ensure smooth day-to-day transactions, and provide leadership support including, but not limited to training, timecards, scheduling, performance, deliverables, etc.
- Prepare the annual operating budget for approval by the Board of Directors.
- Ensure all financial operations comply with organizational policies, and non-profit regulatory requirements at federal and state level by monitoring the accuracy of financial documents and business processes.
- Account for income and expenses for the current and future capital campaigns, including tracking of pledge receipts, construction in process, and expenses related to the new building.
- Prepare recurring financial reporting (monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements) and present to executives and the Board of Directors, and update as necessary through the reporting cycles.
- Responsible for Accounts Receivable, cash receipts, and support to Development for donor reconciliations.
- Co-responsible with HR for processing payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Monthly reconciliation for bank and investment accounts.
- Backup Accountant when needed for all accounting activities including check processing, vendor inquiries, and credit card processing and reconciliations.
- Support Federal, State, and foundation grants’ lifecycles including but not limited to budget preparation for submission, tracking of labor costs and expenses, grant invoicing, and grant audits.
- Ensures contracts and supporting documentation comply with annual audit requirements.
- Backup HR with benefits, new hires, and IT equipment tracking.
- Develop, update, and formalize standard operating procedures for the Finance Department.
- Implement Strategy Plan KPIs with the Director team and Board of Directors.
- Participate in the HIPAA Taskforce and collaborate in the development of privacy policies and data security plans.
Requirements of the position include:
- BSc or MSc in Finance, Accounting or relevant field.
- 5+ years of proven work experience as an accountant or finance professional, preferably in a nonprofit organization.
- Excellent knowledge of data and analytical skills, risk management, and forecasting methods.
- Ability to successfully manage a workload that balances long-term planning with the daily demands of holding a key position within the organization.
- A minimum of three years’ experience using Blackbaud Financial Edge, and at least one year of donor management platform, such as Blackbaud.
- Hands-on experience with payroll/accounting system.
- Ability to be in-person in the office twelve times a year, on average.
- Excellent people skills with experience collaborating in a multidisciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team, as well as willingness to provide support to the greater FIRC’s staff as available and necessary.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
- Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- CPA license.
- Experience working remote.
- Proficiency in Spanish.
