Summary
Moffitt Cancer Center at International Plaza (MIP) is a 50,000-square-foot full service outpatient facility designed and equipped to provide the same level of cancer care we provide at our main hospital. Daily patient visits vary between 50 and 100 patients .
Treatment services :

  • Oncology physician office visits
  • Infusion services
  • Blood draw area and clinical laboratory
  • Radiation therapy
  • Radiology (PET, CT, MRI, Chest X-ray)
  • Screening Mammography, Diagnostic Mammograms, 3D Mammography & Ultrasounds
  • Rapid Response Thyroid Cancer Assessment

Our MIP Clinic is currently looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to care for our patients seeking outpatient oncology treatment at our Breast, GI, GU, Head & Neck-Endocrine, Radiation Oncology and Supportive Care clinics.
Position Highlights:
  • Certified Medical Assistants are essential members of the clinic team. They contribute to the healthcare of patients by assisting with exams and procedures, organizing and managing patient flow, and taking on other responsibilities based on the needs of the department.
  • This position will report to our Moffitt International Plaza (MIP) location by International Plaza near the Tampa airport.
  • The Certified Medical Assistant at MIP will provide support to the GI, GU, Head & Neck - Endocrine, Radiation Oncology and Supportive Care clinics.

The Ideal Candidate
  • The ideal candidate will have the following:
    • Prior experience in an outpatient clinic setting as a Medical Assistant.
    • Prior experience in a GYN Clinic as a Medical Assistant
    • Experience handling sterilized equipment as a Medical Assistant
    • Experience handling Colostomies, Pap smears, and thyroid biopsies as a Medical Assistant


Responsibilities:
  • Assists patients with ambulation and/or movement on/off exam table, chairs and/or in and out of wheelchairs utilizing proper body mechanics and safety measures such as, lift equipment.
  • After proper patient identification, performs initial patient screening, including vital signs, screening questions, allergy information, and medication history as appropriate. Notifies appropriate staff of positive screening or abnormal vital signs. Documents collected data completely and accurately in medical record including staff notifications. Loads images in preparation for provider visit, as needed. Ensures clinic patient flow is smooth and efficient. Keeps patients and clinical team informed of delays. Communicates effectively to patients, providers, nurses, and other team members.
  • Assists practitioner in patient procedures/treatments/examinations, including room preparation, patient positioning, supplies, and equipment. Departs from clinic those patients that do not require nursing intervention. Maintains and uses principles of aseptic techniques and universal precautions when performing clinical duties and tasks.
  • Maintains the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care or services based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patients served in the assigned service area. Utilizes computerized systems according to departmental needs.
  • Provides support to the provider during clinic by assisting with phone calls and faxes.
  • Recognizes emergency situations and implements emergency procedures. Administers first aid and CPR.

Credentials and Qualifications (per Medical Assistant level):

Medical Assistant Trainee:
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • BLS, required.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant Program
  • CMA Certification required within 6 months from date of hire.

Clinical Assistant:
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • BLS, required.
  • 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinic setting or equivalent role
  • CMA Certification required within 6 months from date of hire.

Certified Medical Assistant:
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • BLS, required.
  • CMA certification, required.

Certified Medical Assistant II:
  • High school diploma or GED, required.
  • BLS, required.
  • CMA certification, required.
  • 2 years of Medical Assistant experience, required.
