Chief Engineer - Salaried Exempt

The Lakefront, Anchorage hotel (formerly the Millennium Hotel) is recruiting for salaried exempt Chief Engineer (not subject to overtime) to join our team. At the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel, we strive to deliver a memorable experience for our guests. Situated on the shores of scenic Lake Spenard, one mile from Anchorage International Airport and four miles from downtown Anchorage, the Lakefront Anchorage Hotel is the perfect starting point to explore the many wonders Alaska has to offer. The Lakefront Anchorage Hotel boasts 248 rooms and three outstanding food and beverage outlets.

The role of the Chief Engineer Manager is to maintain the entire hotel facility, including physical building structure, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems, and related equipment in accordance with energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs. Ensure the upkeep of guest areas to maintain an attractive hotel. Manage all rehabilitation, expansion, and special projects. Also, provide leadership and development to the engineering team.

Typical duties of the Chief Engineer include:

  • Conducts walk-throughs and visually assess the safe and efficient maintenance and operation of the physical structure(s) of the hotel, all mechanical, electrical, H.V.A.C. systems, and any other related equipment.
  • Assigns and verifies completion of all routine maintenance on public spaces, meeting rooms, ballrooms, outlets, back of the house spaces, and grounds. Assigns and verifies completion of all repairs, replacement, and renovations projects to offices and employee work areas.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and disciplines department staff.
  • Maintains appropriate supply of materials and equipment to carry out the normal day-to-day operating and maintenance requirements of the hotel.
  • Maintains organized and efficient administrative and filing systems within Property Operations for the timely and accurate handling of correspondence, reports, requisitions for purchase, and other administrative requirements of the department.
  • Maintains a well-defined and organized system within the shop for the inventory, maintenance, and storage of all tools, products, materials, and equipment necessary to execute the required activities of the department.
  • Immediately available to report to the hotel in the event of any hotel emergency which necessitates the skills and expertise of the Chief Engineer.
  • Develop/Maintain effective Energy Management and Preventive Maintenance programs, conducting special training for other operating departments on the safe and efficient use of equipment and energy in the hotel.

The successful applicant will:

  • Excellent knowledge of electrical systems, components, and devices, H.V.A.C. systems, boilers, mechanical systems, and the maintenance and repair of all.
  • Excellent knowledge of public construction and building systems; all related permits, licensing, new and existing codes pertaining to public building and fire safety.
  • Ability to analyze all associated systems as to their design, intent, and effective performance.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Skilled in the proper and safe use of all tools, equipment, materials, chemicals, and products relating to the department.
  • Prefer 5 years of hotel experience as a Chief Engineer or a minimum of 6 years practical engineering experience at a hotel or building maintenance. Trade school and/or professional training in related areas may be substituted for work experience.
  • Patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Work as a productive team member by contributing positive energy.
  • Perform the duties of the position in a safe manner.
  • Be professional and respectful in all interactions with guests and associates.
