The position will offer an opportunity to provide leadership and expertise in the field of safety to Project Safety Managers and project teams. As a valued team leader this role ensures the safety and well-being of our project teams across multiple construction sites. While visiting multiple sites per day, you will provide guidance and support for to project teams to identify and plan avoidance of hazards to achieve zero incidents. You will develop and implement safety policies, conduct inspections, and investigate incidents to maintain compliance with regulations. Job site training on safety procedures is a priority while managing risk assessments and collaborating with various project teams to promote our culture of safety.
What You Will Do:
As a Regional Safety Manager , your primary daily responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Determine appropriate safety equipment and safe work practices to be employed by subcontractors and subordinates on specific jobs based on OSHA, MIOSHA, and corporate standards.
- Examine equipment slated for purchase and proposed facility modifications and additions for safety requirements. Recommend modifications or adjustments to correct any deficiencies prior to purchase or use.
- Provide each jobsite with necessary safety documentation and resources during mobilization (start-up, postings, signage, safety programs, etc.).
- Chair regular safety meetings and ensure that coordinated safety training and motivational campaigns are conducted in association with company policies.
- Stay abreast of OSHA, MIOSHA, and corporate safety regulations and standards applicable to the industry. Regularly pursue related educational and training opportunities for job performance improvement on an on-going basis, and openly share knowledge and debate concepts with appropriate members of the Christman team.
- Coordinate and plan employee training programs to develop safety leadership expertise of project team members.
- Develop company safety policies, practices, resources, and tools to assist project team members in their safety leadership responsibilities, ensure their communication to those affected and audit for compliance.
- Advise project teams regarding response to safety concerns, recommendations, and problems on their projects.
- Establish evaluation program and participate in annual review of each superintendent regarding safety.
- Perform and supervise periodic inspections of job sites, equipment and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and health standards and regulations.
- Observe workers and work practices to ensure that protective devices and safe work procedures are used.
- Investigate unsafe working conditions and ensure they are permanently remedied on the project site.
- Perform structured safety evaluation of project sites and conduct regular reviews with each project team regarding safety leadership actions and results.
- Review superintendents' weekly safety reports and follow up on any concerns.
- Initiate and ensure investigations of accidents and unsafe working conditions, compiling data and providing remedial actions to achieve effective accident prevention and avoidance of losses. Report accidents and findings to insurance company and record for OSHA and MIOSHA.
- Act as a liaison with government agencies and serve as a management representative in the case of inquiries and inspections to correct deficiencies and to minimize citations and fines for noncompliance.
- Manage, coach, and mentor Safety Managers in all aspects of their job scope.
What You Will Bring to the Team:
Required experience, knowledge, and skills for this role include:
- Bachelor's Degree of Science in Safety, Civil Engineering, or a related job field.
- Minimum five (5) years of commercial construction safety experience on large-scale projects and/or multiple smaller scale projects and also experience in managing direct reports. -or-
- Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.
- Additional Eligibility Qualifications
- Proficient with Microsoft 365 including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must have excellent leadership skills with the ability to manage and train employees and the ability to implement effective safety programs to ensure the well-being of all project teams on site.
- Must have a high level of confidentiality.
- Strong communication skills, including excellent ability to identify safety hazards, understand project-specific safety requirements participate in collaborative problem solving, and enforce desired safety results.
- Ability to plan and prioritize individual contributions to achieve high-quality, timely results. Dependability and punctuality for all work-related commitments.
- Ability to earn respect through the credibility of safety hazard recognition, knowledge of safety standards and positive approach to problem solving. Ability to develop productive relationships within the project team, with trade contractors, and with the owner.
- Ability to detect and mitigate safety hazards throughout the construction site.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor and appearance at all times and perform well under project constraints and deadlines.
- Solid numerical and analytical skills and ability to apply these skills to achieve accurate statistical information related to safety.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
The majority of work is completed outside at the construction site and in an office trailer where the project is monitored, and daily decisions are made about construction activities. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires the wearing of protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats, safety glasses, and highly visible clothing). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons. As part of our focus on being a Great Place to Work , we want to make sure we are clear on a few more basics we expect:
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, sit, reach (with hands and arms), climb, balance stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must be able to talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, be able to use a telephone and operate a keyboard.
- Be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds.
