Job Description:

The Associate candidate will be based in the Los Angeles office and work within the Originations group in a collaborative team environment to help review, underwrite and close commercial real estate loans. The candidate will have the opportunity to interact directly with all levels of senior management, including the investment committee, as well as direct client contact often not seen in other organizations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Source new financing opportunities and market the firm through active participation in the real estate community.
  2. Review and screen commercial real estate financing opportunities.
  3. Create detailed financial analyses of commercial real estate financing opportunities using Excel and Argus.
  4. Coordinate efforts leading to transaction closing.
  5. Review, approve and research property, financial, market and legal due diligence matters.
  6. Prepare internal investment memoranda.
  7. Participate in the ongoing asset management and servicing of all investments and act as resource for Asset Management and Servicing personnel post-closing.

Qualifications Required:

  1. At least 3 to 5 years of experience in an analytic support role which could include real estate, finance, banking, equity, and corporate finance.
  2. Strong academic background and undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, management or real estate. Real estate program or coursework a plus.
  3. Strong analytical and quantitative approach to business and problem solving.
  4. An understanding of financial modeling including discounted cash flows, IRR calculation and scenario analysis.
  5. Real estate underwriting and valuation experience a plus.
  6. Excellent Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to create models from scratch. Argus experience a plus.
  7. Experience with or understanding of basic capital markets principals including interest rate calculations and basic bond math.
  8. Strong written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must be able to articulate ideas and thoughts well both orally and in writing.
  9. Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  10. Detail oriented, good organizational skills and the ability to effectively multi-task, undertaking a large number and variety of tasks while maintaining the highest work product standards.
  11. Strong work ethic.
