Summary:

Reports to the Director of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Program. Serves as a member of the Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner Leadership Team. Will lead and oversee the SAFE modular curriculum development and sustainment. Plans develops implements and evaluates education and clinical training to support practicing Sexual Assault Forensic Examiners (SAFEs) SAFEs in training and nurses and advanced practice providers interested in the forensic nurse role. Will work closely with the SAFE program leadership team hospital staff and external stakeholders to promote and support SAFE program goals. 

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In conjunction with the SAFE Leadership team develops format and content of SAFE education and related teaching materials that are consistent with national standards state and hospital requirements.

Identifies educational needs for the program to address clinical requirements professional development and foster a quality improvement environment.

Coordinates and conducts clinical and technical education precepting and in-service education of SAFEs.

Provides consistent role modeling guidance evaluation and feedback on staff performance and makes recommendations for staff educational needs.

Identifies and implements CEU application for educational programs.

Assists in policy and procedures development and review Reviews and revises policies and procedures for the education programs.

Other information:

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Baccalaureate in Nursing from an accredited college or university is required. Masters Degree in Nursing and/or Nursing Education is preferred. Consideration will be given to internal candidates who are enrolled in a masters degree program.

Must have current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island or in another state that participates in the Nurse Licensure Compact.

Must have Basic Life Support (BLS)

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout their lives considering aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns at each care process step.

EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience with demonstrated teaching/leadership and communication skills and strong presentation skills.

Training and/or experience as a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner.

Ability to design implement and evaluate an educational program to meet staff learning needs.

Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills that facilitate the adult learning experience

Experience with curriculum design development simulation scenario development and execution and debriefing techniques that meets staff learning needs is preferred.

Demonstrates the ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams communicate program needs.

Demonstrated knowledge or interest in promoting the specialty of forensic nursing.

Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer effectively and Microsoft Office applications primarily Outlook Word PowerPoint Excel Epic and learning management systems.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Emergency Department environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care. Position requires frequent standing walking and sitting.
