Synchrony - AVP, Lead Software Engineer
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
The AVP, Lead Software Engineer craves working in a hands-on system design and architecture environment and leads by example to make sure time-sensitive projects get done on time and to specifications. To be successful in this role, deep expertise in solution and event-driven architecture, microservice architecture, cloud technologies, and the ability to influence and lead a team are musts.
This AVP will lead the development and the life cycle management of our consumer bank acquisition and servicing application by creating and developing thoughtful solutions to anticipate bugs and maintain operational excellence. In short, you would be one of our technical experts and team leaders.
Responsibilities:
- Influence many agile development teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle through SAFe.
- Implement new technologies and assist developers as they migrate to new technologies.
- Architect applications across the full stack, experience in PCF, Cloud Native Application Architecture, Microservices ecosystem, J2EE, Spring Java, and RESTful APIs are a must.
- Design data models to support complex business processes.
- Drive a CI/CD strategy using our Jenkins, Bitbucket, and uDeploy stack.
- Mentor and influence all levels of the team.
- Ensure compliance with architecture, security, and technology standards set by Synchrony.
- Assist in crafting and maintaining the future state technology architectural strategy, along with our application modernization and migration roadmap.
- Participate in Agile scrums consisting of cross-functional teams.
- Lead Agile sprints as the technical expert, including sprint planning, daily standups, backlog grooming sessions, and sprint reviews.
- Ensure application code quality through development, test, and QA.
- Participate in addressing root cause analyses, incident reports, and provide direction in problem resolution.
- Analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root cause, and implement fixes.
- Provide 24x7 on-call support periodically throughout the year.
- Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance.
- Work with third-party vendors to develop software and/or integrate their software into the company's products.
- Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 8 years of experience with software engineering; OR, in lieu of degree, High School Diploma/GED with 10 years of experience in software engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of application development experience.
- Spring Boot and Spring Cloud development background.
- Critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience building and consuming web services via SOAP and REST, writing unit test cases and automation.
- Expertise with CI/CD environments.
- Strong experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
- Desire to learn new technology and prototype business problem solutions using them.
- Experience with Database Architecture, Modeling, and familiarity with MySQL & SQL.
- Familiarity with JSON, REST, and XML-based web services.
- Excellence in technical communication with technical and non-technical peers.
- Strong cross-functional team player with the ability to work seamlessly across a matrix organization.
- Desire to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Experience developing and supporting financial/banking Enterprise scale applications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence clients, team members, management, and external groups.
- Excellent attention to detail in a team environment.
- Strong oral and written communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Grade/Level: 11
The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
Eligibility Requirements:
- You must be 18 years or older.
- You must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation, and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process.
- You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
