Financial Analyst Summary
The Financial Analyst plays a critical role in analyzing financial data, forecasting financial performance, and providing actionable insights to support business decision-making. The analyst will run and document financial analysis projects and aid in a variety of financial functions. This work will directly impact VGM strategic planning, budgeting, and financial reporting processes. The ideal candidate must be able to apply principles of critical thinking to a variety of practical and emergent situations and accurately follow standardized procedures that may call for deviations.

Working Location: Waterloo, Iowa, Hybrid work environment can be explored post training and meeting performance expectations *(work from home not guaranteed)
Work Hours Classification: Full-time, exempt -Monday-Friday 8-5, occasional off-hours may occur when job duties require
Responsibilities/Duties of the Job

  • Assist with managing and completion of divisional monthly, quarterly and year-end closings, including review of complex calculations and journal entries, and performance of financial statement analyses.
  • Assist with preparation and analysis of reporting used for executive team leadership performance reviews.
  • Proactively and regularly communicate with clients and stakeholders (both internal and external) to fulfill requests and contractual needs; visit sites for meetings as needed (i.e., financial / P&L training for regional personnel, oversee inventory counting procedures, new site implementations, client meetings, etc.).
  • Coordinate and lead divisional and company-wide special projects that will have a broad impact across the organization, including but not limited to internal control implementation, process improvements and business optimization, due diligence, data integrity initiatives, etc.
  • Develop and implement processes for monitoring and timely communicating financial and operational performance at the site level, analyzing, identifying and communicating areas for operational and financial improvement, and implement mechanisms for tracking of postimplementation results.
  • Prepare and/or review monthly balance sheet account reconciliations, financial reports for management and clients, various other financial analyses.
  • Identify and remediate process and control deficiencies; update policies, procedures and process documentation; communicate process changes to team members affected.
  • Supervise and review work (financial reports, journal entries, etc.) of staff accountant (s); Communicate feedback structure for resources supervised and provide substantive and critical real time coaching and development insight to promote ongoing culture of continuous improvement.
  • Assist management with annual budget preparation, as well as monthly / quarterly forecasting activities.
  • Prepare and perform financial presentations for clients and management during site visits.
  • Compile and support external auditors' requests for information and documentation.

Position Qualifications
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or statistics; a combination of significant public accounting and industry experience is acceptable.
  • 2+ years of progressive accounting responsibility and proven experience working as a financial analyst - preferred ability to work with teams both on-site and remote.
  • CPA preferred but not required.
Skills and competencies:
  • Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws relating to financials of a company.
  • Must be able to apply sound judgment beyond a specific set of instructions and apply knowledge to different factual situations.
  • Proven proficiency in spreadsheets, databases and financial software applications, including the software applications your organization currently uses or plans to use in the future.
  • Ability to work with large datasets and excellent reporting skills.
  • Strategic thinking, organizational, and proven analytical and financial modeling skills.
  • Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend/implement solutions; ability to prioritize tasks, work with minimal supervision and make sound decisions
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer serve skills with ability to communicate with all levels of employees with an organization as well as communicate effectively with all external.
Physical Requirements:
  • Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment,
  • Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision,
  • Occasional travel to business-critical meetings or events. Rare, but on occasion.
