Job Duties
Monitors the grievance procedure in its entirety (informal complaints, emergency grievances, and regular grievances) to ensure compliance with the Department of Corrections policy. Conducts investigations of inmate grievances. Consults with staff and inmates to resolve problems/issues and to investigate claims. Meets with inmates as needed. Prepares responses for correspondence as required by the Operations Manager. May coordinates access to the Law Library and the Institutional Attorney
Minimum Qualifications
Considerable knowledge of Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) operations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of federal and state laws governing rights for the incarcerated. Demonstrated ability to conduct interviews and investigations, research, and present findings clearly and accurately. Demonstrated ability to analyze data. Ability to provide guidance and consultation to inmates needing assistance. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written rules and regulations. Ability to maintain harmonious working and public relations. Ability to organize and complete work assignments with minimal guidance from others
Additional Considerations
Experience in a corrections facility providing direct contact with inmates. Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and Access programs.
