Job Description

This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS and provide the services outlined below. The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) safely provides anesthesia to surgical patients for a variety of operations and/or procedures. The CRNA performs pre-anesthesia patient evaluations/histories, prepares anesthesia plans, delivers all forms of anesthesia and follows up on anesthesia cases. The CRNA will consult and collaborate with the entire surgical care team. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of anesthesia equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Conducting all pre-anesthetic screenings, including physical evaluations, patient interviews, and documenting all results.
  • Creating, recommending, and implementing standard operating instructions and practices pertaining to the administration and management of anesthesia.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
  • Certification by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists is a requirement for employment.
  • Current ACLS and BLS certification. Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • DEA License.
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is required.
  • Must relocate to project site for the duration of the contract.
  • Pass/possess VA Public Trust Clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ability to translate the principles of professional nursing practice in the care of assigned patients to provide appropriate care.
  • Ability to perform a pre-anesthetic patient history and physical, which includes collecting perioperative consults and data.
  • Ability to formulate an anesthetic plan and describe the anesthetic risks, benefits and options to the patient.
  • Ability to administer inhalation, regional, intravenous, local, and topical anesthetics and to detect unfavorable reactions to continuously evaluate the patient's physical status.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations by providing airway management, administration of emergency fluids and drugs, and using appropriate resuscitation procedures for patient care.
  • Ability to provide patient care that is abreast of changing concepts and advancements in the profession.
  • Ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment for improvement of services for patient care.
  • Ability to practice nurse anesthesia with colleagues and peers utilizing a collaborative team concept of anesthesia care.
  • Ability to perform IV's.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting to 15 lbs.

Pay range is based on several factors and may vary in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Final salary and offer will be determined by the applicant’s background, experience, skills, internal equity, and alignment with geographical market data.
