Principal Scientist – DNA Analyst
MRIGlobal is seeking highly motivated persons to join our Integrated Defense Solutions Business Unit as a Principal Scientist working 100% Remote or in Charlottesville, VA. The successful candidate will join a team of scientists conducting forensic analysis on human DNA (hDNA) data. The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in DNA profile interpretation.

Principal Accountabilities and Success Factors
The Principal Scientist will be an integral part of our team providing forensic DNA analysis and review services to address customer needs. Successful candidates will be nimble learners who can quickly complete project-specific training, demonstrate proficiency, and work well in a decentralized environment. This position requires the ability to pass a background investigation. Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform technical reviews of analytical data and reports.
  • Write or contribute to technical reports, and/or papers for publication or presentation with clear results and concise, well supported conclusions.
  • Interact with Clients to provide updates and summary of testing results.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Forensic Science or related field and a minimum of 15 years of related experience; or appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Computer skills and experience with MS Office, GeneMapper ID-X, STRmix and/or ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Experience processing and interpreting hDNA casework
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior industry experience with forensic DNA profiling tools including:
  • GeneMapper ID-X
  • STRmix model maker
  • Interpretation of complex STR profiles
  • Stutter thresholds and calculator aids
  • CE instrumentation and data
  • Prior experience managing complex and high priority forensic casework
  • Prior experience validating new forensic instruments, protocols, and/or procedures
  • Prior experience testifying as an expert witness in a court of law
  • Professional certification (e.g., American Board of Criminalistics)
  • Prior experience using and maintaining security of a Forensic Register
  • Prior experience adhering to a code of conduct
  • Prior experience following specific guidelines to interpret DNA profiles
  • Prior experience working in an ISO 17025 environment
  • U.S. Citizens and eligible to obtain/maintain a government security clearance.
