We work with labs across the world to understand their specific workflows and needs, and develop personalized solutions that range from diagnostic, drug discovery to synthetic biology. This allows us to simplify common automation tasks, while also supporting more advanced paths for specialized workflows, in a fast, flexible, and cost-efficient way.
We are looking for a Solutions Engineer (SE) to work alongside Field Applications Scientists (FAS), liaising with customers and internal Engineering/Product teams to leverage their Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to help develop new and novel solutions.
Why is this role important for Automata?
We are currently experiencing increased demand for lab automation, as well as the testing of new tools to further empower scientists.
In this role, you will:
- Act as a technical liaison between internal teams and customers to ensure accurate interpretation of scientific protocols and workflows in the LINQ platform.
- Develop initial design concepts into complete solutions, including CAD designs (Onshape), custom parts, and Python SDK workflows.
- Conduct product and software demonstrations, assist with RFI/RFP responses, and lead solution design discussions and customer workshops.
- Manage multiple customer projects, write User Requirement Specifications (URS), and evaluate internal processes for improvement.
- Attend trade shows, on-site customer visits, and travel internationally (15% with notice).
What it takes:
- Practical experience working on large-scale Engineering projects, in particular system design (CAD), estates and deployment.
- Ability to work independently and interdependently across diverse groups inside/outside the organization.
- Ability to work in situations with high levels of uncertainty.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- High level of commitment, initiative and willingness to learn new skills.
- High competency in Python.
- BE, BEng or similar with 2-3+ years of experience in a relevant field.
Nice to haves:
- Experience in the life sciences industry/liquid handling automation.
- Previous experience in customer-facing positions.
- Project Management experience.
- Understanding of automation and robotic systems.
