PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Oversees payroll, financial accounting and reporting, general ledger reconciliation, and accounting policy development; computes and prepares data for journal entries, general ledger, and related financial statements; oversees all payroll and accounting functions under the direction of the Director of Finance. Implements the YWCA's Mission, Purpose and One Imperative.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.in accounting or finance) or equivalent work experience with an Associates degree in Accounting.
  • Five years accounting and payroll experience, preferably in not-for-profit setting.
  • Strong supervisory skills.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Payroll guidelines and laws.
  • Strong understanding of Accounting Principles.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, and interest.
  • Ability to prepare financial reports and business correspondence.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to translate financial information to non-financially trained staff.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees; demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and with all levels of management.
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Proficient in Excel and Accounting Software. Experience Non-profit Accounting software/systems preferred.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

ACCOUNTING

  • Oversees the Payroll process, offers support and training to Payroll Manager, and responsible for adherence to current payroll and tax laws and guidelines. Conducts research relative to Payroll as needed.
  • Oversees and/or leads preparation of general ledger journal entries, fixed asset tracking, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank reconciliations.
  • Oversees verification of all account coding, ensuring appropriateness in relation to grant and contract expenditures, fiscal commitments and approved budgets.
  • Maintains proper and consistent accounting records for payroll, cash disbursements, cash receipts and all other financial functions of the organization.
  • Assists with the production of monthly financial statements.
  • Analyses and reconciles assigned balance sheet accounts on a consistent and regular basis.
  • Reviews financial data for accuracy; identifies problems and supports day-to-day operations.
  • Assists with company cash flow analysis including but not limited to tracking cash flow activity, preparing reports, and analyzing information for management.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely month-end close.

REPORTING/COMPLIANCE

  • Produces month-end and quarterly financial reports and issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assists with education of staff relative to monthly departmental financial statements, accounting procedures and policies.
  • Prepares and updates financial information including organizational financial statements and monthly operating statements by department.
  • Creates and maintains adhoc financial reports upon request.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Finance, assumes leadership role in preparing for and facilitating annual external audits, preparation of form 990, implementation of recommendations and assists with communication with auditors.
  • Comply with applicable local, state and federal licensing requirements/certification and/or regulations.

BUDGETS

  • Assists in preparing the organization’s budget under the direction of the Vice President of Finance and in collaboration with others.
  • Assists in regular analysis and reporting of spending and variance trends compared to budgets and historical data.

POLICY AND STANDARDS

  • Assists in adoption of new accounting standards including but not limited to researching standard, preparing written accounting procedures for organization in support and compliance of approved policies.
  • Supports policy development and offers advice regarding accounting and internal control issues, reporting needs, and policy review and changes.
  • Work cooperatively with the Management Staff and accounting team in implementation of accounting and finance recommendations and systems as needed.

GENERAL

  • Assists with related special projects as required.
  • Comply with Association policy regarding required reporting of child abuse, elder abuse, suicide and homicide.
  • Safeguard confidential information gained as a result of job.
  • As a YWCA employee, project a positive image of the Association and its programs to the community, the Association and the program.
  • Work cooperatively with program participants, YWCA staff and volunteers.
