ROLE OVERVIEW
Reporting to the Director of Accounting, the Accounting Manager will play a significant role in evolving the Melissa & Doug finance organization. This person will serve as a key partner to FP&A, HR and other functions and will be responsible for building brand new accounting processes and procedures.
Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the company's General Accounting and Accounts Payable functions
  • Lead the monthly closing process, including the preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and detailed variance analysis.
  • Identify inefficiency in the close process and implement necessary changes such as workflow and technical improvements
  • Responsible for leading a team including motivating, coaching, training and mentoring team members
  • Assist FP&A in monthly reporting to ensure the proper reporting of transactions within entities, accounts and departments
  • Provide technical accounting support including establishing policies, drafting technical accounting memos and implementing new accounting pronouncements
  • Support the annual financial statement audit and ensure appropriate controls over accounting and financial reporting
  • Partner with various functions and business owners to drive key system implementation initiatives and improvements
  • Partner with the Spin Master Accounting team and broader Finance function to integrate processes
Qualifications:
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience; ideally includes experience within a public company
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance or related discipline required, CPA preferred
  • Experience with complex ERP systems such as Oracle Fusion or SAP
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and SEC reporting requirements
  • Experience creating, implementing, managing, and monitoring effective internal controls
  • Passionate about leading change and solving problems
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Self-motivated with desire for continuous improvement
