Coffee is at the heart of our heritage and future. This position provides a unique opportunity to own and lead a coffee portfolio at Starbucks from creation to commercialization and go-to-market across multiple store formats and environments. As a Product Manager for Reserve Coffee, you will lead the U.S. Reserve Whole Bean coffee portfolio for Starbucks and work with a dynamic, passionate team to make the coffees and the stories behind those coffees come to life for customers and partners. We are looking for a candidate who is passionate, collaborative, proactive, analytical and has a high capacity for multitasking and problem solving.

This role is the nexus and single point-of-contact for Reserve coffee in the U.S. Responsible for the creation, commercialization and communication of Reserve Coffees. This role leads and owns the business, commercialization and go-to-market of our Reserve Coffee portfolio, as well as driving key strategic initiatives.

Business Management & Strategy:

  • Develop annual and promotional strategy packages to brief the Global Coffee teams on coffee needs for each store format and customer
  • Provide input into the strategic plan including product, pricing, promotion and placement of Reserve coffees
  • Manage the business against operating plans and budgets. Track, analyze and communicates product and program performance vs. expectations. Provides meaningful insight and recommends action plans to continually optimize the business
  • Make recommendations regarding product objectives and strategy, positioning, pricing, packaging, and product lifecycle.
  • Merges trends and other primary and secondary forms of research with fact-based business insights to create sound strategic recommendations. Uses data and insights to tell a logical and compelling story.
  • Creates and presents the business case for new programs to support growth strategies and profitability targets.
  • Develop coffee business, customer & partner (employee) insights to drive assortment and pricing strategy

Commercialization of the Reserve Whole Bean Portfolio

  • Brief coffee stories and artwork
  • Manage the selection, briefing and commercialization of Reserve coffees for each promotion end-to-end, in order to successfully launch Reserve coffees in Core & Siren store formats
  • Develop holistic vision for family of promotional coffees and unique role of each individual coffee in promotional portfolio. Develop briefs for the Creative Studio for new Reserve coffee cards that ladder up to promotional plan.
  • Closely partner with Core & Siren Product teams (Core At-Home Coffee, Siren Beverage & Merchandise) to ensure promotional portfolio of Reserve coffees thrives in all store formats
  • Shephard Reserve coffees through commercialization process including commercialization kick off, creative briefing & review, legal approvals, pricing and forecast inputs

Manage Go-To-Market (for each promotion across multiple store formats)

  • Manage cross-functional team to deliver integrated launch programs for each promotion, including product direction and backgrounders
  • Provide key product, pricing and educational/training information for Operations team for partner training materials.
  • Manage promotional inputs and reviews for in-store signage, in-store menus, social media, coffee traceability and Uber Eats, and consults on improvements to in-store and out-of-store communication.
  • Lead monthly updates of the Reserve coffee calendar for cross-functional team across Product, SCO, R&D, Global Coffee, Marketing, LS, CA and select International markets

We’d love to hear from people with:

  • Bachelors degree or 4 or more years of US military experience; MBA preferred
  • Currently in a manager level Category Brand Manager or Product Manager role, looking for a lateral move
  • 3-5 yrs experience in a Category Brand Manager, Product Management or Strategy/Consulting role
  • Strong demonstrated analytics is a must.
  • A passion for coffee or desire to learn more about coffee
  • High capacity to multi-task and problem solve
  • Experience writing creative briefs or managing an agency
