RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assess, plan, organize, and administer Respiratory Care procedures in accordance with physician's treatment plan including mechanical ventilation and airway care.
2. Respond to respiratory emergencies (including cardiopulmonary resuscitations), establish and maintain patient airway, and transport mechanically ventilated patients.
3. Assess patient condition based on medical history, observation, examination, and diagnostic findings.
4. Assist and instruct respiratory technicians and students in respiratory care procedures.
5. Make regular rounds and administer respiratory care modalities to assigned patients.
6. Complete necessary documentation of all pertinent observations related to patient care and treatment administered.
7. Participate in education of students, physicians, and staff.
8. Instruct patients and/or family members in respiratory techniques.
9. Attend and participate in educational meetings and enhance clinical competencies.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

1. A.S. in Respiratory Therapy.
2. One-year clinical training (or equivalent).
3. Currently licensed as a Respiratory Therapist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
4. Registration (RRT) by the N.B.R.C. within six (6) months of hire.

Preferred:

1. B.S. in Respiratory Therapy.
2. Two years of previous critical care experience.
3. ECMO Experience strongly preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

1. Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with healthcare team members.
2. Strong patient assessment skills.
3. Professional and technical skills to act as a staff therapist.
4. Ability to motivate and direct professional and technical staff.

WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Works in patient care environments including intensive care, recovery room, and emergency room.
2. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and secretions/excretions.
