Coach
Position Summary
Under the general direction/supervision of the Athletic Director and Principal, assumes responsibility for planning and administering specified sports programs and related activities including coaching an athletic team and performing other duties directly related to this position description.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Provide coordination and supervision of the sports program and team.
• Help students achieve gains in athletic skill and team performance.
• Designs a training program and game program.
• Organizes and supervises the coaching staff to assure that the program is properly implemented
• Develops team rules, communicating them to the players and their parents, and equitably enforce them.
• Ensures that student athletes meet eligibility rules.
• Ensure that student athletes adhere to training rules, lettering policies, grade requirements, and rules of behavior.
• Ensure the continual supervision of student athletes on the field, in conditioning, and in locker and shower rooms.
• Ensure that health and safety precautions are observed during all activities.
• Immediately report all major injuries incurred during practice sessions or competition to the Athletic Director and Principal.
• Assist in the proper purchasing, inventory, and care of equipment.
• See that district policies are observed during all activities.
• Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
• Obtain advance approval of the Athletic Director and/or Principal for all activities and expenditures.
• Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal.
Qualifications, Competencies & Strengths
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years of experience as a working as athletic coach in an academic setting is preferred
Special Skills:
• NFHS and Concussion certified required
• Demonstrated ability to participate in physically demanding athletic activities
• Possesses knowledge of effective behavior management methods
• Ability to exercise good judgment and work in a dynamic environment
• Professional and friendly disposition
Type of fingerprint clearance: Shall be fingerprint checked pursuant to A.R.S 15-512
Physical functions: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; run; jump; stretch; stand; sit; use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds. The employee may occasionally climb stairs, ropes or ladders. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision. The employee must have the ability to demonstrate proper techniques and skills needed for athletic participation.
Equipment used: Athletic and weight training equipment
Work Environment: The work environment is a standard athletic practice venue and event settings. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities. The employee is regularly exposed to hot outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to bodily fluids and/or bloodborne pathogens.
Travel: This position requires the ability to travel to and from school events and activities. Must be available to accompany team to sporting events.
