The Director, Business Development (BD) serves as a force multiplier for growth – not only at the “tip of the spear” in identifying, originating and qualifying opportunities, but leading teams through the entire business development lifecycle through award. This highly visible role will be at the center of the design and execution of our strategic account strategies, as well as leading our efforts against corresponding pipelines for a designated set of customers.
We are looking for BD executives with proven track records, experience and relationships in the Homeland Security and Federal Civilian (e.g., Commerce, Treasury, etc.) markets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify, qualify, shape, and win opportunities
- Develop customer relationships and position for opportunities using a consultative business development approach
- Lead customer meetings (e.g., initial discussions, formal presentations, informal conversations)
- Manage a multi-year opportunity pipeline
- Inspire, motivate and lead teams - without direct line authority - to achieve distinctive results
- Work closely with Corporate and Business Unit leadership, Capture Management, Proposal Management, Contracts Management, Pricing and other colleagues to ensure the development and delivery of winning proposals
- Play a central role in helping to develop account strategies
- Lead internal opportunity problem-solving and gate review discussions
- Develop effective teaming partnerships with other firms

- Perseverance and tenacity in leading opportunities through the entire lifecycle
- Experience building relationships and networks within Federal Civilian agency customers
- Strong problem-solving acumen
- Resilient and resourceful: distinctive ability to find ways around, over or through potential barriers
- Ability to lead business development and capture activities
- On designated opportunities, ability to work seamlessly with a dedicated Capture Manager
- Excellent organization and communication (e.g., executive-level presentation) skills, whether in virtual or in-person environments
- Ability to build trusted relationships externally (e.g., customer, teaming partners) and internally (e.g., senior and junior colleagues)
- The role is based in Reston, Virginia – the successful candidate must reside within a normal commuting distance of the office.
Education and Experience:
- 10+ years of relevant and successful experience in a Federal system integrator and/or professional services firm environment
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, energetic and collaborative environment
- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
