Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provide academic advising and support for first-year students from the moment they deposit until they complete their first academic year, and for transfer and readmitted students from the moment they deposit until their first Add/Drop Period ends.
  • Maintain advising case load for assigned programs.
  • Work in conjunction with assigned faculty coordinators.
  • Develop individualized academic plans and ensure that the student remains on track for graduation.
  • Advise for change of majors/minors and forward all change request forms to the Director of Advising and Academic Operations for data entry and follow up.
  • Address areas of academic concern with students.
  • Work with academically at-risk students and refer to on campus services such as the Learning Resource Center.
  • Make referrals to other points of service such as the Counseling Center, the Career Development Center, and the Disability Resource Center.
  • Work collaboratively with Student Accounts and Financial Aid to help students understand financial information and options.
  • Work collaboratively with Admissions to facilitate registration of newly enrolled students
  • Provide supplemental advising and registration to returning students in their second academic year and beyond.
  • Contact students who have not registered during each registration period to provide needed assistance.
  • Promote co-curricular involvement opportunities.
  • Work with special populations such as first-year, transfer, and readmitted students.
  • Represent the office during fall/spring orientation, on-boarding events for new students, campus visit days for prospective students, and graduation.
  • Lead advising sessions during orientation.
  • Assist in faculty trainings.
  • Answer questions on a variety of issues and across different platforms (drop in appointments, social media, texting, and/or live chat).
  • Contribute to the success of the department by performing all other duties as needed to drive the vision, fulfill the mission, and abide by the values of the College.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Advising experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and organizational skills are required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work weekends and/or nontraditional hours, as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Sedentary y work: exerting upto 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently to life, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.. Sendentary work involves sitting most of the time, and ocassionally walking and standing.
  • Climbing, walking, crouching repetitive motions and ability to comunicate appropriately with student/colleagues.
