The medical assistant assists physicians and professional nursing staff in providing care and treatment of patients. This position is responsible for taking the patient chief complaint. Accurately and efficiently completes visit intake documentation. Follows up on test orders and reports results to the physician; provides and maintains patient education materials; maintains medical equipment; inventories clinical and drug supplies. Complies with assigned collateral duties. Will handle patient's clinical care including medication administration, performance of simple procedures, specimen collection including but not limited to urine and blood specimens following Universal Precautions, patient discharge, and all other patient health care needs.

The full salary range for the Medical Assistant is $50,696.64 - $62,953.20 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.
Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.

Certification Requirements
- Phlebotomy Certificate - CPT I or ability to obtain Phlebotomy Certificate - CPT I within 6 months of employment is required. (Required)
- Certification from an accredited medical assistant training program. (Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. (Preferred)
- Must have written evidence to validate training and competency as a medical assistant (i.e., certification of completion of a medical assistant training program, or a letter from supervising physician/podiatrist). (Required)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years experience working as a medical assistant in a student health center setting. (Preferred)
Minimum Requirements
Ability to perform duties in a professional manner and put patient at ease. Ability to identify potential risk management concerns and provide options to resolve. Ability to work quickly and accurately and to communicate and interact cooperative with patients and all personnel in facility. Familiarity with the fundamentals of asepsis and sterile technique, basic bacteriology and the relationship of bacteria to infection and disease control. Familiarity with universal precautions, handling of biohazardous waste, specimen identification and transport. Respect for patients with diverse cultural backgrounds and life-styles; ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Knowledge of correct usage and spelling of medical terminology and medical equipment. Ability to safely lift and move 40 lbs; to stand on feet for long periods of time; work alone for periods that may exceed the normal 8 hour work day, with variable break and lunch times. Ability to use good judgment in deciding when to seek clarification and assistance and be able to handle many tasks at once, judging what tasks may take priority. Clinical duties require a reasonable level of manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity.
Preferred QualificationsKnowledge of and proficiency in using a PC. Proficiency on 10 line telephone system. Familiar with the software Point and Click Able to problem solve and mulit-task with ease. Team player and positive attitude.
