SALARY RANGE: $82,000-$100,000

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Director of Human Resources participates in the development of policy and helps direct and coordinate human resources functions including employment, compensation, benefits, training, DEI initiatives, employee relations and services in support of organization objectives. Advises management on labor and other legal issues relative to employment. Participates as a member of the leadership team in the development and implementation of organization-wide policies and programs that will contribute to its overall success. The position has one direct report, the Manager of Human Resources.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

RECRUITMENT AND HIRING

  • Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract and retain top talent, with emphasis on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
  • Oversee the full recruitment lifecycle including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding, ensuring effectiveness and consistency.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and ensure positions are filled promptly. Assist in interviewing candidates as needed, providing management with hiring recommendations.

EMPLOYEE RELATIONS AND PERSONNEL

  • Respond to inquiries regarding HR related policies, procedures and programs.
  • Advise management in appropriate resolution of employee-related issues and conflicts, working with them to carry out their responsibilities regarding personnel matters.
  • Conduct exit interviews.

COMPENSATION AND PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Develop and implement performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback, and performance appraisal.
  • Provide guidance and support to management and employees on performance-related matters.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive performance-based compensation program.
  • Oversee bi-annual compensation study process.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Identify, develop, coordinate and conduct management and employee training programs (i.e., interviewing, performance reviews, safety, etc).
  • Monitor the effectiveness of training programs and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay up to date on HR knowledge by participating in conferences and educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

BENEFITS ADMINISTRATION

  • Oversee all aspects of benefits programs, review regularly and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee annual open enrollment and new hire benefits processes.

LABOR LAW AND RECORDKEEPING

  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and stay current on federal, state and case law changes affecting Human Resources.
  • Consult with legal counsel as appropriate, and/or as directed by Vice President of Finance and Administration or President.
  • Ensure HR records and documentation are maintained accurately and adhere to the organizations document retention policy.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to HR policies and procedures.

HR STRATEGY AND PLANNING

  • Collaborate with Executive Team to implement HR strategies and initiatives to support to accomplish goals as set forth by the organizations strategic plan.
  • Monitor HR metrics and analytics to measure the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives.

SAFETY AND WORKERS COMPENSATION

  • Oversee workers compensation claims.
  • Model and encourage safe practices and regulatory compliance throughout the organization.
  • Committed to reporting safety violations as well as potential safety risks to appropriate management personnel.

CUSTOMER SERVICE

  • Understand, support, and articulate organizational policies and philosophies to the public in a positive and effective manner.
  • Promote and emulate exemplary customer service by providing courteous, prompt and responsive service to internal and external customers.
  • Foster teamwork, creativity and a work culture aligned with Wayside Waifs Culture Agreement.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of HR laws and regulations.
  • A strategic thinker who also has strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in recruiting and staffing.
  • Experience in MS Office. Working knowledge of HRIS systems preferred.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Solid judgment with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field, or 5+ years of progressive experience in HR roles. HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM SCP, PHR) preferred.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work in an office setting; travel when required in year-round weather conditions. Use of computer and keyboard; telephone; copy machines and desktop scanner. Potential exposure to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high. Ability to lift 50lbs. Will frequently be working with and exposed to a variety of animals.
