Catering cook's responsibilities include: Food preparation:Preparing and cooking food for events, receptions, and retail operationsFood presentation:Garnishing and decorating food to make it visually appealingKitchen maintenance:Cleaning the kitchen, food storage areas, utensils, and equipmentSanitation:Maintaining health and safety standards for food storage, preparation, and kitchen safetyEquipment operation:Using food preparation equipment such as mixers, ovens, choppers, and steamersFood storage:Storing food properly in refrigerators, freezers, and storeroomsDietary requirements:Meeting special dietary requirementsExtra Duties: Assisting the caf when needed and helping catering manager with deliveries Some skills and qualifications that are useful for catering cooks include: Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 30 poundsAbility to work in a fast-paced, strenuous environmentAbility to handle exposure to changing temperaturesAbility to stand on one's feet for extended periods of timeAbility to read and measure recipesBasic knife skillsKnowledge of weights and measuresBasic understanding of cooking techniques
