Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health invites applications for the position of Admissions Clinician II (ACII) - Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) . Located in Norfolk Virginia, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute , residential , and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital is dedicated to providing high quality care to children, adolescents and their families. We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need, using quality, evidence based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS).
Reporting to the Director of Social Services or designee, the ACII coordinates all aspects of the acute process, from time of inquiry call, through admissions; and is responsible for group facilitation on specified unit. The PHP is an intensive day-time, outpatient therapy program for children and teens, ages 8-17. The program also encompasses a substance abuse treatment program for teens, ages 11-17.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Provides information on facilities programs; program admissions criteria; and admission referral application requirements. Gathers clinical information of all referrals and develops referral packets for review, with Admissions Committee.
- Provides psycho educational groups that assist the resident/patient in achieving specific goals in their life.
- For admissions, verifies administrative process are complete prior to admission including preparation of facesheet, admission documents, "Notice of Admission", and securing immunization records.
- Conducts clinical interviews of referral candidates when necessary.
- Fosters effective communication in the milieu consistent with therapeutic goals; fosters effective communication with staff members, and champions dialogue in addressing concerns.
- Serves as a role model for child and adolescent patients/residents to observe and learn socially effective values, attitudes and behaviors and demonstrates Service Excellence.
- Interprets facility and departmental policies and works cohesively with department in the attainment of organizational objectives.
- Works collaboratively as a member of a professional multidisciplinary team to achieve and exceed quality patient care; displays a high degree of professionalism in all activities and interactions with students, staff, parents, agency personnel, and community members, etc.
- Master's degree in social science, such as counseling, psychology, or social work.
- Demonstrated knowledge of current psychiatric diagnostic and treatment terminology.
- Demonstrated knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, biopsychosocial assessments, mental status examination, and clinical interview.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various regional referral and funding sources.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to identify risk factors for violence, and potential for violent behaviors.
- Demonstrated ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations.
- Must be available for on-call and holiday schedules, as required.
- Demonstrated experience of one or more years in mental health counseling, and crisis intervention counseling strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel).
- Must be able to handle multiple competing task, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency.
