Role Overview:
The Principal Data Architect is a key leadership position that is at the center of the data and technology transformation. We are seeking an energetic and passionate architect to lead the design and execution of our company’s modern data product strategy. As a vital member of the Enterprise Data team, you will collaborate with Data Product Owners, Architects, Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and end-users to reimagine, design, and build the next generation of cloud-based insurance solutions using cutting-edge technologies like AWS, APIs, and AI.
In this role, you will proactively engage with cross-functional teams, including the Experience team, Product Managers, key business leaders, Data/Technology leaders, and Value Stream Architects. You will lead and support strategic architecture decisions that shape our enterprise data products, enabling the organization to achieve its future-state business capabilities and target architecture.
Additionally, you will be responsible for evaluating existing data pipeline architectures, enhancing foundational elements, participating in product ideation, and providing recommendations for technology stack improvements.
What You’ll Do:
- Design scalable and efficient data architectures that enable enterprise data products, including Logical and Physical data models, storage solutions, and data integration processes.
- Develop data management frameworks and standards to ensure data integrity, quality, and security.
- Work closely with Data Product Managers, key Value Stream business leaders, Technology leaders, and Value Stream architects to understand the business problems, desired outcomes using data strategy, and translate these requirements into data product solutions using various technology stacks.
- Create and maintain inventory and designs of current state “data capabilities” supporting the FB and SIB teams.
- Create an integrated view of end state data architecture and align on target-state data product capabilities and corresponding architectural designs that ensure the strategic alignment of the 6 VS architecture roadmaps.
- Identify and frame opportunities for consolidation/simplification of legacy technologies, data stores, and applications.
- Collaborate with data engineers, data scientists, and product owners to implement data product solutions.
- Act as a liaison between IT and business units to ensure alignment of data initiatives with business objectives.
- Monitor and maintain data systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Develop and enforce data governance policies and procedures.
- Stay up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies in data architecture and management.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and innovation within the existing data infrastructure.
- Promote best practices in data architecture and data management across the organization.
- Ensure data solutions comply with relevant data privacy and security regulations.
- Implement data security measures to protect sensitive information.
What You’ll Bring:
- 10+ years of hands-on experience as a Solution Architect, Enterprise Architect, or Principal Data Architect for large-scale enterprise solutions, with a strong focus on agile practices.
- Extensive experience in Data Architecture, Cloud Solutions, emerging technologies, Big Data, Data Modeling, Data Warehousing, and Business Intelligence.
- Proven ability to design and implement data architectures that define and deliver data as a product.
- Deep understanding of modern data architecture, including experience with data lakes, data warehouses, data marts, relational and dimensional modeling, data quality, and master data management.
- Strong background in Operational Data Stores, Dimensional Modeling, and supporting application data architecture. Experience with Oracle, Postgres, MySQL, and understanding of best practice architectural concepts for relational data models.
- Experience in designing, deploying, and evaluating tools, frameworks, and patterns for scalable data platforms.
- Extensive experience with industry-leading data platform technologies such as Data Lake, Databricks, Snowflake.
- Experience with database technologies for both structured and unstructured data, ensuring optimal storage and retrieval.
- Proficient in cloud architecture and best practices, particularly with AWS Cloud tools such as Amazon RDS, Redshift, AWS DMS, AWS Glue, Amazon S3, AWS Lambda, and more.
- Proficient in managing large datasets, cloud computing, open-source tools, and optimization techniques.
- Expertise in overall solution architecture for data platforms built on the cloud.
- Strong experience in data integration, data processing, data streaming, and message queuing techniques.
- Familiarity with relevant code repository and project tools like GitHub, JIRA, Confluence.
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) processes.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively conveying complex concepts to both technical and business teams.
Desired Skills:
- Solid understanding of the insurance, wealth management, or financial services industry.
- Extensive hands-on development experience with Cloud (AWS, Azure) and Storage services are desirable.
- Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and frameworks a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or an Engineering discipline.
- Certification in data management (structured and unstructured), and/or cloud architecture or engineering a plus.
- 15+ years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, and cloud tech developing production-grade software components and solutions.
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $157,500-$270,000
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual’s experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
