The role of Director, Corporate Security entails directing and implementing strategies for the security and protection of the company's employees, facilities, pipeline distribution system, and capital assets. This includes overseeing internal investigations, executive protection, workplace violence prevention, technological protection systems, contract guard management, and business continuity/disaster preparedness plans.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain an active liaison program with all levels of law enforcement, and other governmental agencies, as well as with security colleagues in the private sector, for the purpose of gathering intelligence which may affect the security of Company personnel and assets, and to collect information on alternative security technology and procedures.
  • Plan, administer, evaluate, and test security programs, policies, procedures, and systems to cost-effectively protect the Company’s employees, contractors, customers, visitors, assets, and confidential information.
  • Supervise electronic technicians, guard service supervisors, off-duty police officers and other contract security personnel.
  • Maintain and ensure compliance with the existing Security Plan as outlined by the Department of Transportation’s Office of Pipeline Safety (OPS) and Laclede’s Engineering Department.
  • Develop, implement and test Company-wide and department-specific plans for emergency planning and disaster recovery in alignment with the Department of Homeland Security.
  • Function as a project leader to develop, communicate, implement and monitor solutions and processes using multi-disciplinary teams. Maintain close communication with management and respond to requests for support.
  • Utilize a strategic approach to corporate security that is proactive and focused on prevention, as well as effective reaction.
  • Respond to all alarms and incidents; oversee the investigation, ensure all relevant information is gathered and physical evidence is held; determine what needs to be investigated and notify authorities when appropriate.
  • Accountable for assessing and maintaining Company-wide surveillance; administering contracts for alarm systems and supplemental security; evaluating systems and cameras assuring the most appropriate for each designated area and ensuring security patrols are provided to periodically monitor areas not covered by surveillance.
  • Conduct and/or supervise investigations regarding known or suspected theft, fraud, sabotage, vandalism, and any criminal or civil matters regarding the Company, as required.
  • Conduct various confidential security functions for the Company, including security investigations as necessitated by departmental needs.
  • Manage administrative duties of department including, preparing and implementing a Corporate Security business plan, manpower planning, recruitment, coaching, program planning, training, budget preparations, expense control, compensation decisions, etc.
  • Arrange for transportation for Executives to various events.
  • Other duties to be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises management employees and indirectly supervises contracted officers.

Required Education (certifications, licenses)

  • Minimum 15 years of relevant experience, required in either local, state, federal or military law enforcement at a supervisory or management level.
  • Minimum 3 years of corporate security management experience, required.
  • Emergency management and business continuity planning experience, preferred.
  • Certified Protection Professional (CPP), preferred.

Required knowledge, skill and abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate and master the core and job category competencies applicable for this role within the organization.
  • Ability to work/lead in an ethical and safe manner and support the company’s values.
  • Proven investigative skills and techniques and knowledge of applicable laws.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the law and relative bodies of law.
  • Knowledgeable of the current trends in security related technology.
  • Must possess strong coordination, organization and liaison skills to help consult in the design and implementation of security program strategies and the ability to seek and gain consensus on creative solutions to complex security issues.
  • Strong problem-solving skills. Ability to accurately assess needs, maintain a calm business demeanor and take quick action to resolve issues, especially under emergency situations.
  • Proven ability and commitment to being discreet, tactful, timely and operating judiciously when addressing internal and external customer needs. Diplomatic interpersonal skills to effectively relate to all levels of colleagues and vendors.
  • Ability to delegate responsibility for various security functions and ensure that all responsibilities are being carried out.
  • Clear and effective oral and written communication skills are critical as is the ability to promote the open flow of information by actively soliciting and listening to the ideas of others.

Physical demands, environment and schedule

  • Work Environment - Work is normally performed in an office environment.
  • Work Hours: 7:00am-5:00pm or similar.
  • Some travel and after hours are required to develop and manage relationships.
