As a Housing Resource Navigator, you will help people overcome barriers and achieve their housing goals. You'll serve at a nonprofit organization or public agency that has a mission in housing advocacy, social services, and/or public assistance. Heading Home Corps provides you with valuable, hands-on experience and provides the training and professional development you need to be successful. You provide the compassion, dedication, and time that our communities need.

How You'll Take Action
  • Help individuals experiencing homelessness achieve their housing goals.
  • Assist clients in navigating social services resources, programs, and benefit systems.
  • Foster strong relationships to help clients build their confidence and skills.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
  • Gain hands-on experience in social services while embedded in a local organization.
  • Share your experience with the wider community as a Heading Home Corps ambassador.

It Starts with a Passion
Our members come from all walks of life. Anyone can become a Navigator as long as they have a passion to make a difference - and meet the following minimum qualifications.
By the time they begin their service, our Navigators are:
  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance.
  • Able to set a pace and maintain a service schedule of 40 or 25 hours per week, depending on the agreed upon hours commitment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), internet searches, data entry, email communication (with attachments), databases and software use, and videoconferencing.
  • Fluent in English.
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States.*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check.
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve in our programs at this time. DACA applicants may be eligible for Americorps VISTA programs. For more information, click here.

Our Navigators come from all walks of life. The most important qualification is a passion to take action for your community - and meet the following minimum qualifications. By the time they begin their service, our Navigators are:
  • Dependable and have a history of good attendance
  • Able to understand and follow instructions
  • Able to set a pace and maintain a service schedule of 40 or 25 hours per week, depending on the agreed upon hours commitment
  • Competent with basic computer skills (like email and navigating online)
  • Fluent in English
  • 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or equivalent
  • A citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States*
  • Able to successfully complete a background check
*Applicants who have received deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security are not eligible to serve as AmeriCorps members at this time.
Compensation & Perks Package
While you're making a difference, you'll receive a paycheck (stipend) every two weeks and additional perks! As an AmeriCorps program we have both federally provided benefits and program specific benefits.
Federal Benefits include:
Members starting in July-
  • Up to $6895.00 in Education Award
    • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award* which can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to a family member. Click Here for more information.
  • Federal student loan forbearance and interest repayment.
  • Time accrual toward Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
Members starting in September-
  • Up to $7395.00 in Education Award
    • Segal AmeriCorps Education Award* which can be used to pay tuition or repay qualified student loans. Individuals 55+ at the start of their service term may gift their award to a family member. Click Here for more information.

Program Specific Benefits by hours commitment per week
All Start Dates-
40 Hours
  • $1275 stipend paid every two weeks.
  • Individual health insurance - monthly premium 100% covered.
  • Child care assistance - based on family size and income.
25 Hours
  • $725 stipend paid every two weeks.
