Job Overview :

The Director of Engineering will oversee the design, planning, and execution of all engineering aspects of commercial construction projects. This role is crucial for ensuring the technical and structural integrity of projects while maintaining cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in commercial construction engineering, team leadership, and project management.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Leadership & Strategy : Lead and mentor a team of engineers, project managers, and technical staff. Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with the company's goals.
  • Project Oversight : Oversee all engineering phases of construction projects, from design through completion, ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.
  • Technical Expertise : Provide expert guidance on structural design, civil, mechanical, and electrical engineering, ensuring that all designs meet industry standards and client expectations.
  • Collaboration : Work closely with project managers, architects, and other key stakeholders to ensure that engineering solutions meet the technical and financial goals of the project.
  • Budgeting & Resource Management : Manage engineering budgets, resources, and timelines. Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality.
  • Innovation & Sustainability : Implement innovative technologies and sustainable engineering practices to improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance project outcomes.
  • Compliance & Risk Management : Ensure that all engineering activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. Proactively identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Client Interaction : Serve as the technical point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication and effective management of client expectations throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial construction engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams on large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, building codes, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Experience with project management software and tools such as AutoCAD, BIM, and Primavera.

Preferred Skills :

  • Experience with green building practices and LEED certification.
  • Familiarity with emerging construction technologies such as 3D modeling, prefabrication, and modular construction.
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills, with a collaborative and results-oriented approach.
